I have already posted this once...

human life is NOT priceless. otherwise we'd have to ban all the cars.

insurance industry average is $2m per life. at 5% GDP hit that equates to 500,000 deaths, already much bigger than the virus can ever kill.

not to mention all the other damages done by a economic shut down.

It is not realistic, otherwise the government would have come up with this already. You can't isolate a nursing home from its workers or grandma living with her children.

That logic contradicts keeping us isolated for weeks on end. It’s the same thing and the government is doing it not by force but by shutting everything down.

A perfect example of why I don't get into conversations on ET. My statement, "Costco is not accepting returns on toilet paper which is generating another behavioral shift, anger." Nowhere did I state that people are returning toilet paper. The fact that Costco found it necessary to refuse returns implies that somebody has tried to. Remedial classes in reading comprehension are available online. Now that we've degenerated into subtle juvenile insults we can collect our ET participation :Dtrophies.
You are overly sensitive. relax.

That’s a tough choice.

Sure. Tough choices are coming.

Let's say you are a triage doctor with 1 ventilator and they bring in 5 patients. 80 year old otherwise healthy, 60 year old otherwise sick too, 40 year old otherwise healthy twins, 20 year old fat, smoker. You have to pick ONE to be saved. How do you make that choice?

you ought to go for school logic. costco does does not based policy on someone attempted to return paper.

When in doubt flip a coin.

I’ve called for this plan. We can risk the curve on the young, the virus working its way to flatline on its own with some possible deaths(less risk population). Then help the sick and elderly achieve a flat line by self quarantine and government assistance.
Why? If the young are passing on the disease to others, perhaps we should quarantine the young.

This poll is to measure how we as society function and what kind of sacrifice we are willing to take. This is also for any country, not just for the US. I am not saying which side is good or bad, I am simply just curious of our posters' take.

My prediction is that eventually people all over the world will lean towards the let the weak/old fail and let's get back to normal choice. But I could be wrong...

Keep in mind that in choice #2 there still could be huge number of casualties due to social unrest, revolution, food war, etc.

2% is 6 million, mostly old people, mostly Republicans, including senators, governors, mayors, donors, plus tens of millions of the elderly scared shitless for the rest of their lives.

You think the GOP is going to allow Trump to let them lose every single race for the next 20 years?

Young people can pass it to each other all they want. If you are at risk age then quarantine yourself with government aid. If the situation is unique then deal with that uniqueness. I think that would work better, just my opinion. Even with just a little awareness like work from home, social distancing etc we would probably fair better than everything closed. Just a thought.
