The brakes will get applied by the left once they can feel the strength to bother. Some will certainly go back up in little stupid ceremonies with apologies.

Be thankful that the left is in reality not just a bunch of talk radio "Ditto heads". Their opinions are far from homogeneous and it takes a little more time for things to filter down.

That first statement is prescient. Its why I don't dismiss you when you get a little nasty.

Ditto Heads though. I can't listen to Rush. I can't listen to anything that is monolithically right or left. I don't even know where I fall into the political spectrum anymore. I have said for years that I am a Goldwater arch-conservative but that part of the GOP no longer exists and I am no more welcome there than I am on the left.

This country produces some good people. Why we can't get one as our leader points to a systemic problem with democracy, at least our version of it.

I agree with a lot of that, I don't recognise much of what I see, the face of Conservative is unrecognisable. My mom was pretty classic conservative when she left to study in the early 1960s and expats are usually little time capsules of when they left the country and she was distinctly centrist to left by today's standards. My idea of what it should be rests with her.

That Daughters of the Old South stuff (that's the name I remember having seen their old posters) is pure revisionist bullshit.

I get people have lifelong memories with town squares and whatnot but other than a pain in the ass for new historical films (more cgi) it is better the record is set straight.

I'm mean when I sense meanness, I'm not always right and middle age makes for cranky sometimes. I was just thinking of my mom and opened one of a few remaining folders of her stuff I have been taking time to archive. I found a letter from my aunt congratulating her and some condolences I was another boy :) The past is important to me, very much, just I would never hang on to a made up version of it for long. As my mom used to say, time passes and things change, usually for the better. America has a lot of unfinished business to work out.

The left is in pussy mode and afraid to get in front of the vocal few making all the noise. If you think that ANTIFA represents the entire liberal world then you are just as guilty as all GOP being called confederate loving racists. I did nto hear the GOP step up to pull back the Confederacy movement just like the Dems are not stepping up to pull back the few out there yanking down monuments.

If the Newseum were still open all the defaced property would go in a new wing to show outrage in penduluum swinging movements.

When we see pictures of Blacks hanging from trees with white men, women and children standing around and smiling for a photo op, we know those are the same people who supported putting up those statues to begin with. Since I cannot find the outrage at family lynching gatherings from the majority it comes as no surprise the majority is also silent on the vandalism to statues.
