Monitors....what do you Really Need?

haven't bought monitors since 2007. Upgrading one or both of the computers in my little trading office and adding a third, which will need monitors. The selection is much wider these days, and I see price ranges from $99 to $1099. I'm sure I don't need the 4k monitors, but for trading, what is the best monitor for the money?

The setup (to match my other ones) will be 6 monitors total. 2 vertically mounted and 4 horizontally. Our other setups have 23" Samsung Syncmasters.

I notice 1920x1080 and 1920x1200 monitors seem popular, what is the difference, and what does a guy really need? also, 10,000,000:1, 50,000,000:1...whats the REALISTIC (noticeable) difference? Thanks in advance

Personally, I like 24-27", 1920x1200 res. Even at that, text is small... so I run some of mine at 1600x1200. That's not "native", but still good for trading.

High res monitors are for giving the user a graphics "wow"... not necessary or beneficial in a trading rig.... the WOW doesn't hurt anything, just not beneficial or worth paying up for in trading.

4k monitors are actually superior in every way due to the higher ppi. Now they doesn't mean they're necessary for a trading rig - but they're certainly capable of being advantageous for general purpose work.

The 5k retina like monitors are by far the best visually (iMac 27" for example).
 
Your trading account doesn't know the difference between a $4000 setup and a $4000 losing trade, buy the cheapest solution to the problem and pretend the money you saved was a winning trade. I run 4 27" monintors. However, most people would be better off with just two monitors on their fastest computer for shorter time frames and execution, and put everything else on your old compters, higher time frames, news, emails. whatever.

We don't need one system, let alone the greatest system, we need money.
 
IPS-LED screen, it's not the best for gaming but has superior colors and amazing viewing angles. It still costs a bit more but it's worth it.
Apple calls these the "Retina" monitors which is just fancy branding typical of Apple. Funnily enough IPS monitors on sale that are the same as Apple's inside cost much less - you really are just paying for the brand name.
 
General observation: Inasmuch as a lot of the big trading wonks say "keep it simple" I have come to the belief that if you can't see your indicators and the price clearly on a small screen, you have too much happening and are not keeping it simple.

Caveat: I have three time frames going, so my keeping it simple needs three times the real estate.
 
ok....I already know what I need as far as how many....just wanted to know the ins and outs of the differences between them. wanted to keep things as low budget as possible, without sacrificing my, or my other trader's eyesight. Thanks for the replies. I found some refurb Acer 24" 1920x1200s I think we'll go with.
