Monitor Resolution - 1680x1050 or 1920x1080?

This may simply be a question of personal preference; however, since the folks on this board tend to have very strong opinions, I figured that I would float this out there.

For trading, which monitor resolution and aspect ratio do you prefer?

1680x1050 (16:10)
or
1920x1080 (16:9)

Does it simply come down to:
1) the higher resolution the better, and
2) 16:10 v.s. 16:9 is a personal preference

I'm pretty much looking at buying three of the same monitor as an upgrade from my current setup. I'm looking at the following three offerings from Dell:

if your eyes are good, higher resolution will give you more on the screen. emcworkstations has 4 24" samsung monitors and a stand on a tax time sale - not sure if you need a stand or not. the 24" samsungs are $299. just a fyi
 
Get a 23" or 24" 1920x1080...I wouldn't go any bigger than 24" though otherwise you'll feel like being in the front row of a movie theater.

Which size monitors did you get from Dell? Was it one of the models that I listed? If so, which one? Have you tried them in portrait mode? How's the viewing angles for not being IPS panel?

And did you go through the Dell Outlet?

By monitors, I assume you are talking about your trading setups monitors only. I using the 1680 recently, and it is a pain in the butt surfing the web. Most pages are unreadable. I used extensions/addons to chrome, firefox, IE, and get amateurish results, sometimes huge, sometimes OK, sometimes small, and the extensions often have strange side effects...

Getting ready to dial down to a lower rez...

The price of this item seems a little high. 23" for $269 new.

I picked up a few Samsung 24" monitors (and they are great) from Fry's for about $220 or something like that on sale... and that was the latter part of last year. I would imagine the price of these monitors would have come down more by now.

My opinion: get a 24" over 23" if the price difference is low. It shows the chart details better.
 
If you prefer two browser instances side by side, like me, then I'd suggest 2048 width. Most web sites are designed to fit 1024 (half of 2048), so you'll be able to see two web sites side by side. With 1920 width, the same setup will have small portion of many web sites' pages not visible without horizontal scrolling - like youtube and amazon for example. It's definitely worth the price difference.
