Mollie Tibbits' Murder

When they get worse than citizens I'll say we have a problem, but it's not close.

The study looked at conviction data in Texas — which has the second-largest population of foreign-born residents — for native-born, undocumented immigrant, and legal immigrant residents.

The research found that native-born residents were most likely to commit and be convicted of crimes, while illegal immigrants saw a conviction rate that was 56% lower. Legal immigrants appeared to be the most law-abiding, with 86% fewer convictions than native-born Texans.

There's also a Criminology journal study from March which examines states' reported rates of violent crime and undocumented immigration. From 1990 through 2014, those data found a negative correlation — meaning that the more a population is comprised of undocumented immigrants, the lower the violent crime rate seemed to be.

People tend to pick and choose the statistics they want based off the narrative they want to push. This article breaks down some of the reasons why the Cato study isn't accurate. The most glaring reason is the fact that they don't include crime statistics from criminals that aren't in their fingerprint database. So the overall numbers are skewed.

Take a look at the federal statistics. It's estimated that non-citizens make up 8.4% of the nation's population. Non-citizens make up 21.4% of all federal convictions if you exclude immigration crimes. The homicide rate is 8.9%, so it's at a slightly higher percentage than normal. Non-citizens were convicted of kidnapping at 5X the rate of legal citizens, and they were convicted of drug offenses at 4X the rate of legal citizens.

I don't think that illegal immigrants tend to commit most crimes at a higher level than legal citizens at a comparable economic level. They probably commit less crime so that they don't get deported. But our southern border has a significant problem with both human trafficking and drug trafficking.

As long as they are lowering the crime rate per capita and providing cheap services, I don't see a huge issue, we certainly have more pressing things to worry about.

Astounding. You take a deeply flawed study being pushed by open border zealots and then leverage it into an argument for turning our country into brazil or worse.

Reliable crime stats are hard to come by precisely because the open borders establishment doesn't want inconvenient evidence to be collected. We do know that something like a third of federal prisoners are illegals. In California it's probably double that.

There is also the issue of what kind of crime. Illegals typically are involved in violent drug gangs. We know drunk driving is something of a hobby with them, as is raping underage girls.

The main reason to have a border and immigration laws has nothing to do with crime rates, but it is instructive how much blood and horror for legal citizens you open borders advocates are willing to accept.

I never said I wanted open borders, I did say we have bigger issues, like tens of thousands dying prematurely due to lack of health insurance.
