Moderna hopes to start making potential vaccine ‘as early as July’

U.S. biotech company Moderna is aiming to begin manufacturing an unapproved coronavirus vaccine “as early as July,” CEO Stephane Bancel told CNBC.

The company has entered into a 10-year partnership with Swiss drugmaker Lonza to quickly move forward with manufacturing of the experimental vaccine mRNA-1273, which is now in a phase 1 human trial. The potential vaccine became the first candidate to enter a phase 1 trial in March, though the results of the trial have not yet been released, according to a report by CNBC’s Will Feuer. —Hannah Miller

I wonder what the legality of an unapproved vaccine? Sounds like wishful thinking. Desperate times call for desperate measures so it is not like I am against it, but we have to make sure a vaccine doesn't have a negative long term effect.

That said, I think we will have a working vaccine by September, not necessary by the US. Other countries are more loose about regulations. Hell, the Indians would start vaccination yesterday, just give them something.

Actually that might happen. A US made vaccine will be tried on foreign nations first, and if it works there after a 1-2 months delay they can sell it here too.

It's a golden time for these pharmaceutical companies. They just have to announce they maybe have soon a vaccine to pump up their stock.

I remember years ago Hemispherx that kept investors busy with a never ending story of promising trials. In all these years they NEVER had a succesful medicine. Only baked hot air. Looks like they start again this time with a covid19vaccine? Watch the volume suddenly going up.

Odds of an "effective and safe" vaccine in that short of time are virtually nil.... regardless of the hype.

From what I've read... the shortest time to develop an effective vaccine was for Ebola... 4.5 YEARS! So... we're gonna swallow the notion of "6 months" on this one?

Yup, their also low on hygiene standards, eating food with hands (washed/unwashed - who knows) etc.

No worries tho, they gonna be fine, since they received a gazillion masks from CCP

To be frank, J&J also said they are going ahead and start to manufacture before they get approval. But I guess they are 98% sure they will get approved thus they cut down on time by a lot.
