Modern Europe (and USA) Beginning To Look Like The "Fall Of The Roman Empire" -- Niall Ferguson

"... modern Europe is starting to display some of the characteristics of Rome at its apogee. He says:

… Europe has allowed its defences to crumble. As its wealth has grown, so its military prowess has shrunk, along with its self-belief. It has grown decadent in its malls and stadiums. At the same time, it has opened its gates to outsiders who have coveted its wealth without renouncing their ancestral faith...."

check out the jews. A long stable society (and economy) which was around long before the Roman Empire and still is alive and thrives today in spite of unspeakable misfortunes.

Christianity isn't Europe's ancestral faith, either. When you go back far enough, everyone's ancestral faith is pretty hideous, including early versions of current religions.

perhaps, but look at the countries who embraced the Protestant Reformation and compare them to those that held on to the old catholic teachings and 100 years later compare their standards of living. As a man thinketh so is he.

US bans lead in plumbing.
No need to fear a similar decline.
more people have died from economic inactivity than ever died from lead. That's all USA knows how to do anymore is ban things. They can't think far enough ahead to know what to ban before it is ever developed. They are now so dumbed down they must first wait for an individual to create something and then ban it. A good case in point is the EPA. They can't look at it and know what you should not do with it. But once you do something with your property like dig a pond for your horses to drink out of and the kids to swim in on a hot summer day and for you to fish in when the season is done, then the little government lightbulb goes off in their collective bureaucratic head and they do the only thing they know how to do which is to ban things.

A religion that takes the smartest males out of the gene pool for a few thousand years will do that as well.

now, over 7 BILLION people on the planet;
and someone is really worried about - maybe a few thousand gang members?

sounds like we should be really really really afraid;
keep the fear going, and maybe we'll make [another] mistake, like Iraq,
and make things worse
