Mock Trading on the CME Floor!!!!!

Quote from nitro:

I used to work on the floor of the MERC when it was at Union Station by the river. While I worked at the Treasure Bill pit and had a smelly yellow jacket on everyday, I have never been in the new MERC, and I have never actually had the opportunity to trade face to face with another trader. Being in a fast market and being in a pit is one of the coolest experiences...

nitro :)

The Eurodollar pit at 7:31 AM on Unemployment Friday. That rocked!

i went through mock trading at the merc when i became a gem member. was fun but not like real pit trading. your palms still get sweaty.

if anyone would like to visit the cboe floor as a guest. free!!!! just pm me and i will discuss details..

i am a full member at the cbot & cboe

That is one sweet offer!

Quote from Tea:

I've done this before at the CBOE.

What I noticed most, was how limited the universe is of traders in the pit that you trade with. At best you can see and communicate with 1/3 to 1/2 of the other traders. The rest are looking some other way.

Compare this with electronic trading where you can see and communicate with tens of thousands of other traders on the screen.

Another thing I noticed was how the mob mentality could affect your opinion of price - sort of like people at an auction bidding more than they should because of the influence of the crowd or getting distracted because someone yelled in your ear.

I think calm evaluation in front of a screen is a more efficient environment for price discovery.

ah, living in "The Matrix -- Reloaded"

I agree with your comments

I clerked in the gold pit from 1979-1981 at the merc. $280 up to $850 and back down to $500. That was my internship. I traded the Gilt and the US T-Bond in London on the LIFFE from 1982-1988 and while the Bond was locked limit up on the Tuesday after Black Monday 1987 we rocked on LIFFE with the Bonds at one point in the day up 11 points (352 ticks). I traded the bund on LIFFE from 1991-1997 when LIFFE in 1994 was doing more volume than the CBOT. I am now in the Eurodollars after a brief stint with retirement. Until you put your money and your gut on the line this side of the Atlantic or the other side there is no better BUZZ than the pits on UNEMPLOYMENT FRIDAY. Anyone fancy a visit to the MERC you know how to find me.
