Missing human contact

Agree with the others here. Get a desk in some shared office space. Ideally with some other traders if possible, if not then it doesn't really matter. Humans are inherently social animals. A solitary environment isn't conducive to being mentally healthy.

Twitter keeps my mind relatively socially occupied during the day to connect with like minded people , google hangouts/skype are also good tools for connection to others during the day. Kind of nerdy to have internet friends but whatever, better than nothing since screens are the way now days :)

I also have a dog, Even so, I know what you mean. Really boring at times. I find having TV on even for just noise in the background helps with the boredom isolation during the day. Music helps spirits as well.

On the other hand it does really bug me if other people are physically around distracting me during trading. So I suggest once you get your biz done for the day structure other stuff to keep yourself busy.

Make an effort to go out for lunch maybe with a friend, spouse, or even by yourself to people watch, walk, or workout. Even a drive in the car and running some errands feels good to get out of the house.

Wife is usually home for lunch for an hour so that is kind of nice too.

Human interaction seems more scarce now days with everyone having their face buried in their phone or on a screen all the time!

Bill Gross, head of PIMCO doesn't even have a cell phone for that very reason. I agree we need more human contact , "rise of the machines"

I posted another related thread about boredom.
Now I have another issue being a day trader for 1- years, and full time for a little over a year.
I used to work for a company with 1000 employees and I had a chance to see quiet a few people every day and different one due to the nature of my job, an IT specialist.
Now being alone a home, I miss the human interaction, especially during the trading hours.
What do you guys/gals do for that?
The only idea I got so far is to go and pay for a desk in a co-working company. But not sure if I want to pay $400-450/mo.

Thanks

The real question is this : Do you want to make money (and this is what this crazy trading business is all about) or do you want to socialize with people?

Seriously, do you want to make big bucks and retire wealthy or do you just want to hang out at the water cooler at the office and talk nonsense?

Put bluntly and honestly like that, you are going to chase away "slackers" or people who have "slacking" tendencies.
