Affirmative action is government enforced Bias. Currently it only effects white males in any significant fashion, so nobody cares. BUT, if it was aimed at any other group, it would clearly be seen as racist and sexist.

I have to agree wholeheartedly. The definition of "affirmative action" is certainly key here. Very very few have a problem with all of us using the same restroom etc... Many more, myself included, have a problem with "set asides" and bonus points for college admissions based solely on skin color and other activities that would be considered racist targeted to any other group.

I do agree with much of the rest of your post, that most deserving minorities are done more harm than good by these programs, for the reasons you list and others. Until blacks denounce the Sharptons of the world who continue to insist on such programs, the stigmatization will continue.

The assumption being made is that equal and fair rights and priveleges are extended to any and all. This, however, is patently false.

Here is, of course, a simply example. Studies have shown that having a "white" name helps you get a job better than having "non-white" name. Its just a name on a resume with same credentials, but companies, most importantly the hiring manager, skew towards those who they think are "white" (whether by instinct or overt action; neither of which matters, simply that it is done).

Or how about the psychological study whereby a black woman drops a bag of groceries and a white woman drops a bag of groceries. More people will assist the white person rather than the black person.

This society still places a premium on being white and a discount on a person's worth if he or she is non-white. Thus affirmative action, the efficacy and implementation of which is a different argument.

Fraid not here. Affirmative Action was the title that was added when it was realized that the table was not going to be level. It became a political democratic party tool when they realized that it was attached to a major voting block. A block that was clearly being taken advantage of. And if they promised an audience and maybe a seat at the table of power they could count on the block to support their cause.

Now, that was only one seat and there was clearly no intention of any power to go with it initially, but it has grown. So much so that it is maybe three seats out of fifty and it can be used to squeeze a bribe or two occassionally. Ask the Rev. Jackson, or Rev. Sharpton., or the Rev. ???

And it effects white males as they had been the ones who set the standards in a way that in many instances only included them in the beneficial outcomes.
