Millions made, much of the world seen, what now?

He added: "Found a great girl, but she's afraid of me and my life style and went with a normal person instead."

2 billions in the bank and still can't get the girl. Truly sad...

"People who made sudden success are telling me this is normal and will pass. That's good to know! I guess I'll take a shower then!"

TL;DR: Take a shower.

THe term "con artist" comes from confidence. https://www.quora.com/Where-does-the-term-con-man-artist-come-from

https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2016/01/can-you-spot-a-liar/423588/

"Konnikova: Emotional vulnerability is one of the things that unites victims of cons, in the sense that it’s not so much a personality trait, as where you are in your life. Because what happens when you’re down, when you’re vulnerable, there’s change going on, and your world no longer makes sense the way that it used to, so you’re particularly vulnerable to people who make sense of it for you. You want that meaning. You want that sense of connection and con artists are very happy to supply it for you. One of the things that I found really interesting is that it transfers across domains. So, for instance, if you lose your job, you’re not just more vulnerable to finance frauds, you’re more vulnerable to romance frauds, you’re more vulnerable to every single thing even if it has nothing to do with money, just because you’re in an emotionally susceptible position.

Khazan: One thing I found surprising was that cons are underreported. Why is that?

Konnikova: Part of it is that people really value their reputations, so they don’t want others to know that they fell victim. The other thing is that they value their reputation so much is that they don’t want themselves to know. They would much rather believe that they were the victims of bad luck than that they were victims of a con artist. Our self-deception is incredibly powerful, because we have this very strong protective mechanism where we want to think of ourselves in the best possible light. No one wants to think of themselves as a sucker or as someone who falls for some con artist, who to someone else might seem obvious.

You want to think of yourself as someone who’s smart, as someone who’s savvy, as someone who would know better, and so that’s exactly what you do, you say, “Oh, bad luck, luck of the draw, it was just a bad investment decision or this person just wasn’t ready for a serious relationship,” whatever it is. So the funny thing is, most people don’t learn from their mistakes because they don’t acknowledge that they made them. One thing that I learned while I was researching the book, which I had no idea existed, was that there are sucker lists out there that con artists buy and sell of people who’ve already fallen for a scam. Those are the best victims, the ones who have already been victimized once, because they’ve done such a good job rationalizing that they’ll do it again.

Khazan: That’s sad, because that means it's more likely to happen to those people over and over again.

I have no issues with someone talking about NDEs and such. I very much have issues with a story that starts with deception be it an honest mistake or involuntarily delusional.

When people hear the term 'cancer' many don't have the knowledge to differentiate between the different kinds under that umbrella term.

AGAIN, she had Hodgekin's disease/lymphoma. Big deal relatively speaking, it is among the very easiest cancers to treat. It will confuse and fool others (lung/pancreatic) into making bad choices they and their families will regret.

Why she went untreated until stage 4 is a mystery but she survived because of chemo. Someone with a different cancer would not.

She is making money from this through books, courses and speaking fees, donations... Giving some away for free is all just a part of building the "confidence" in the victim.

There is a beautiful world full of wonder and joy. I love this life, I care for my loved ones, I'm no 'Grinch' really. But I do reject charismatic self-profiting liars as they have caused harm to many I know.

This lady again has some wise words from her own experience investigating people who start a lovely story with a lie. We simply can't block them all however that does not mean we stop trying.

https://www.theguardian.com/books/2...iew-new-book-the-confidence-game-review-scams

"Konnikova says she became extremely cynical while working on The Confidence Game. She was confronted over and over again by people who would readily take advantage of others when given the chance. Eventually, she had to force herself to remember that she really was operating among very specific company. The majority of people, she reminded herself, still don’t get conned.

“I really had to go back and remind myself that trusting makes society function on an individual level related to health and on a social level related to economic growth and development,” Konnikova said. “So I said, ‘you know what? trust is good, even if that means that one day I’m going to be conned, so be it. I will give myself permission to be a victim.’”

The time has passed but it still difficult for me to find a right way to address the statements in your post #216, quoted here above.
First of all your knowledge about cancer and your personal experience make me feel not to be in a position to add any word here or enter the discussion. However, I am sharing the same principles as you do - not accepting liers especially those who profit on the humans suffering and spoiling desperate families. I would also add all so-called spiritual leaders, from the traditional priests to the New Age teachers, who are profiting from a genuine desire of people to wake up to their spirit. Once stated that I also can not leave to be accused without foundation somebody whom I believe to be genuine and pure in his/her intent. Help me to take your side - does Anna ever said to the people to not use classical medicine? Does she ever show some insane possession or greed? What type of public danger she representing, considering that alleged intention is not a crime or there are some facts which are confirming her malicious identity? In my previous post, I detailed what it looks to me her message.
And a little bit more - the whole discovery by Maria Konnikova does not look for me to have anything to do with enlightened peoples messages. Maria is speaking about someone, who in my childhood were surrounding us in the form of gypsy women, with funny clothes, ready to predict and change your destiny etc. Well, many people fell voluntary in this trap, it gives them some relieve in exchange for some gold and money, or if they were absolutely loss, in exchange for more jewelry and more money.
Here should be a straight line, in my view, for where the society should interfere
If it is just about some money etc, then the victim should take a lesson and adjust in the life. If the trick is played to the measure that the victim's living conditions are altered, so the law should protect.
I had different experiences in my way by meeting spiritual people and always there is a clear border which separates them into two categories - con artists and enlightened people.
In second categories are all type of genuine healers, with prayers and candles, all type of modern leader, where if we are going to leave Anna out of this list, for now, would be lates Louise Hay and Dr. Wayne Dyer, late Jerry Hicks and his alive wife Esther, eccentric Shirley Maclaine and Md Brian Weiss. I believe the experience of the last, Dr. Weiss, may one day be similar with yours - he was more pragmatic then and believe no more in G-d (or give any name to the magic forces in the life) even. "As a traditional psychotherapist, Dr. Brian Weiss was astonished and skeptical when one of his patients began recalling past-life traumas that seemed to hold the key to her recurring nightmares and anxiety attacks. His skepticism was eroded, however, when she began to channel messages from “the space between lives,” which contained remarkable revelations about Dr. Weiss’s family and his dead son. Using past-life therapy, he was able to cure the patient and embark on a new, more meaningful phase of his own career.
A graduate of Columbia University and Yale Medical School, Brian L. Weiss M.D. is Chairman Emeritus of Psychiatry at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami.
http://www.brianweiss.com/
Dr. Weiss together with his wife are doing tremendous work on enlightening people, their seminars brought changes in many lives. I hope they are also wealthy, what wrong on being wealthy in the right way if you genuinely helping people and they in return are glad to express gratitude with a monetary donation? One of the wealthy acquaintances of mine went on his seminar and later she finally was able to have a child, which no medicine could help her to have. From what I hope she should sponsor him now.
I know you are not a Greench and from your posts, it is clear how you are taking care of your friends and daughter and how you like and enjoy the life. From another side, you are one of the rare persons who risked life in Africa, in the name of the Good, to help the world to be a little bit better. So I hope this your courage will also help to take off the curtains between this so-called real world and magic.
In the end, we are just pieces of cosmic dust and what we believe to know, the knowledge our society has acquired is just a little portion of Universal wisdom, available during our trip on the Earth. Science is moving on every year, slowly Western accomplishments are melting with ancient Eastern knowledge. We are having many messengers from other reality now. Why just to dismiss them and categorize as manipulators, instead of open the heart, clear the mind and give space to a maybe very important message which is supposed to come to one's life?

I appreciate you have dept of feeling on this subject but please understand I am writing this in considerable sadness at your but-what-about heavy reply.

I have read everything you have said and I have not change my opinion of Moorjani as part of the cancer con-artist industry.

My experience working in hospices means I have had this kind conversation a few times. There is also a male vs female view of things. I am very male, practical solution to problem first. Mars, Venus etc. etc.

"does Anna ever said to the people to not use classical medicine? Does she ever show some insane possession or greed? What type of public danger she representing, considering that alleged intention is not a crime or there are some facts which are confirming her malicious identity?"

Simply put yes, she does harm people by adding to the 'information pollution' as I mentioned before. She convincingly talks bullshit to emotionally vulnerable people and makes money from this. A percentage of these she does real harm to.

Moorjani did not have treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma before her coma, one would ask why, you should have asked why.

She give some detail here in another interview it took me a while to find.

She saw a friend die of a completely different cancer. Cancer & chemo scared her so she went to a naturapath instead of conventional treatment.

"I was living in a lot of fear at that time – fear of the cancer, and fear of chemo. I cleaned up my diet, did colon therapy, and took all the pills the naturapathic doctor gave me. "

And no surprise she ended up in a coma a couple of years later though she had no reason to be in one had she had chemo. Hodgkin's even in stage 4 curable and she got better with chemo. The end. Had she had any almost other cancer (like her friend she watched dying), she would have simply died then.

https://labofevolution.wordpress.com/2011/11/03/anita-moorjani-answers-an-oncologist/

She is not an amazing example for others to follow and she is not careful enough to present her story each time with a gigantic disclaimer:

"BTW I ONLY HAD HODGKIN'S LYMPHOMA!! DO NOT TRY THIS WITH OTHER FORMS OF CANCER!".

Read the article I posted before discussing how when people like yourself are under stress they become highly vulnerable to con-artists.

https://www.theguardian.com/books/2...iew-new-book-the-confidence-game-review-scams

I have a theory about why she bounced back (if that really was the case) and I'd be curious to know if she had intravenous vitamin C therapy from her "naturpath" before she went into a coma.

Chemotherapy really does save and lengthen millions of lives (we all die) however cancer is not one disease, it is HUNDREDS. Chemo works very well for some and not others, works best early and not stage 4 except for Hodgkin's and some other blood cancers etc.

The dirty secret is:
1. Insurance/lawyers force oncologists to over-prescribe.

2. Chemo is taken by patients it will not help who want to SHORTEN their lives, sometimes they don't tell their friends they chose a form of proxy assisted death.

My own mother went from diagnosis to death in four months. Had she not taken chemo she would have lived longer however she had a tiny, basically zero, chance with esophageal, metastasized to liver and lung it would help. Older people have seen long & drawn out deaths and most given a choice... So they take the fraction of a percent chance and leave the rest up to god.

https://www.rd.com/health/conditions/cancer-prevention-oncologists/

We are getting there with various cancers, there is hope but talk to experienced people, not stupid bullshitters who prey on the emotionally vulnerable.c

Watership Down is soon coming to Netflix. I liked Jonathan Livingstone Seagull which you mentioned as a kid a lot however, I also liked this little tale (tail) about rabbits. Richard Adams and Richard Bach.

For me JLS was not about if I used my imagination I would become a kind of faster-than-light-and-time being. That is what Jonathan became in a story. JLF was about committing to a path bravely whether it went somewhere exceptional or not.

Slartibartfast,

Your 'rich white people's problems' could be billions of times worse.... :)

Actually a pretty good article.

Markus "Notch" Persson is however Swedish.. I don't know if you have been to Sweden but they like boring, they are generally really comfortable with dull and predictable isolation. Watch "The Swedish Theory of Love" if in any doubt. The pressure of being expected to be something more because of billions of dollars is too much for a grown man. He should move back to Sweden, ease into the money. :) Possibly Finland.

I remember he got caught up in the "pizza gate" stuff, it did not go well.

From the Swedish Theory of Love movie. Where walking in the forests looking for suicides is a popular weekend group activity.. Not my fault, I was made watch it as my girlfriend is a social scientist.

Slartibartfast,

The Nordic Countries are some of the few places I haven't been to. Maybe its the environment/long winters where they are forced to be comfortable in their isolation that conditions them to just be that way. I'd have to get your girlfriend's confirmation but he probably needs to spend a few winters in Columbia to reprogram himself. :-)

From your postings it sounds like you are at the point in life where you would be funding some Foundation, something like Jimmy Wales did with Wikipedia.

Just need yourself, Handle123, Electric Savant, Xela and a few others on ET to fund it and have Baron oversee it, I am sure with your combined intelligence and life experience you'd choose an interesting cause that would certainly better this F#$%ked up world.

Trade on and be excellent to each other.

One worthy cause would be to buy up some endangered jungle before the bastard loggers cut it all down.

Done something like that actually. A big problem here is new roads carving up habitats and animals need bridges to avoid becoming roadkill. The new president in Colombia is 'business friendly' which is a worry as corrupt corporations are ruining the place.

Today my daughter announced we should climb South America's highest mountain to celebrate her doctoral thesis being accepted.

TBH I'd prefer the beach :)

If you prefer the beach try surfing in Lima (San Isidro or Lince is good for longer stay)
