Military coup could oust Obama

The continuity of power is not the issue. The fact that we have followed the rules of the game is important.

There were some very left wing radicals who were not happy with the 2000 election who were crying out for some kind of violent revolt as they believed Bush was not elected president, but was put there by a political process that did not genuinely reflect the will of the people.

Of course these left wing extremists were lambasted by the right wing extremists...the same right wing extremists who now are suggesting coups and sedition...

...anyone who thinks in the manner of a coup or sedition, have completely gone unAmerican, as the political system we have allows for change in a relatively short period of time. In 2010 we can have a big change in political party in Congress, and in 2012 Obama could be voted out.

If these insane right wing extremists don't show that they are American enough to play within our system of government, then hang them all...

Such a bunch of pissy poor losers I have never seen as these idiots who want to tear down America...simply because they lost an election.

Quote from IShopAtPublix:

If there is ever a coup in the USA, USA is done. Continuity of power is something US showed as a trump card to the rest of the world, you take away that and faith in the USA is zero... Anybody who brings up the word coup and USA in a manner such as that article should be tried for treason.

Quote from Barth Vader:

No, not really..........I am just making the point that it would be inaccurate to equate a majority of "voters" with a majority of the "people", whether the object is a presumed political opinion or just plain and simple demographics.

Fair enough. *shrug* It's the same system that elects all of our presidents, love 'em or hate 'em.

Worst system there is, except for... you know the rest.

One thing for sure - if there ever is any military action "in defense of the constitution" I & my family will be out of here at the first whiff. For a certain ethnic group in 1930's europe, staying around was deadly, and there were numerous warning signs. Lesson learned. Easier to come back after a few years and things have normalized. Until then, consider it an early retirement.

The utter lunacy of even the possibilty of a coup is the big joke here. The United States was created with so many safeguards against such a thing...the president being Commander In Chief of the military, seperate military services, federalist system and the 2nd amendment. Even the civil war was not a result of a coup, but succesion of several states. Once military officers disobeyed the Commander In Chief, why would their subordinates follow them? The moment they made an unpolular decision, they would be subject to the same thing. A coup against a lawfully elected president, would be a complete and utter rejection of everything that the US was founded on an followed for over 200 years. No leader after that sort of action would have legitimacy again, and this country is too well armed to be led by anyone if the whole electoral system is thrown away. The United States would be finished and military officers know this and none would be stupid enough to risk this just to remove a president who has not trampled any constitutional rights, or done much of anything else except give speeches.

For those who make the argument of a possibility of a coup, common sense has long gone away. They are no longer simply and legitimately opposed to ideas that run contrary to what they believe, they now are open advocates of insanity. They no longer even believe in arguments and ideas that can get candidates they support elected and OBama and the democrats thrown out of office. Now their faith is shifting to outlandish fairy tale scenarios. Absolutely incredible.

Whose opinion of the Constitution will you defend?

Yes, opinion...which is what the Supreme Court renders on such matters as constitutional or unconstitutional...

The most tragic aspect is that these loony tunes don't even have a solid candidate of their own party to rally behind for the next president.

If they put their energy into the positive aspects of their platform and some great leader of that party and platform, they would be okay.

However, they know that their party sucks, that their leadership sucks, that they have no one on the horizon to lead them...so they go mad and attack like lunatics the present political situation...

Good point, and of course therein lies the dilemma......

A dilemma the founding fathers wrestled with also.

Quote from Trader7793:

A military coup because of president Obama...ha!!! What an utter joke!!!

First he is blamed for not doing anything, then he is accused of trampling all over the constitution and creating a marxist state??

One day the crazed rightwing is saying how Obama is an empty suit and will have a one term presidency and dems will lose control of congress in 2010 and 2012 and the very next day they are advocating and praying for a military coup? Since he is not doing anything and will soon be voted out of office why wouldn't any coup plotters just wait until the next election cycle and problem solved?

I hate to break it to the crazed hate Obama crowd, but possibly increasing taxes and possibly passing some watered down version of healthcare reform is not nearly enough to persuade military officers to forsake their oath, the chain of command, face the death penalty and try to forcibly rule a country with 300 million firearms. Afghanistan and Iraq would be like a picnic compared to the USA under those conditions.

The US Military is full of 20 somethings and lots of minorities, Obama's strongest supporters. What would happen when there was a counter coup and the officers who led the coup were arrested?

Lots of these idiots seem to forget that Obama was elected by a majority of Americans.

People dream up these crazy scenarios when their anger and hatred has overridden all common sense. Reality may not be as pleasant as your daydream fantasy world, but you need to live in it.

Some of you are so filled with racial hatred (throwing around that "porch monkey" phrase) that you cannot even think straight anymore. Ask yourself...where has all that racial hatred gotten you? I am sure that you were raised to think like that and so it is almost impossible for you to break away from that kind of thinking, but your going to end up just making yourself more enraged and more miserable.

You're an idiot... I've argued many times here that Democrats have created a reservation for blacks by lawsuits against the private sector. Private sector employers would have to have rocks in their heads to hire a black worker if Jessie Jackemup is waiting in the wings to file... Porch monkeys are people that have no private sector job opportunities, live on welfare and subsidize their income by crime.. it's not about race...

Again, class.. what's the definition of a racist?

Class: anybody that wins an argument with a liberal...

maxpi you poor, poor, fool. You call me an idiot as you believe in and hope for a military coup in the United States. You hope for treason by the DOD and the destruction of the United States!!! You have drank all the Kool Aid and now are looking for some Ice tea.

Please... for the love of god, get a grip on yourself.

Can't see a military coup unless some general fancies himself as the Big Cheese.

Doubt anyone outside the military could induce the military to support them in their effort to oust Obama.
