I was surprised. McNabb made some comments when they drafted Kolb two years ago. For a franchise QB, he seems a bit insecure, but I have to assume he ok'd this signing.
For the Eagles, it does make sense. They get Vick for backup money this year, and if McNabb should go down, that could be a real bagain. Next year, Vick's value goes up unless he absolutely stinks, so they can trade him. He will have had time to shake the rust off, and the PR stain will be alleviated. I can't see them keeping him as a backup at $5+mill, if something happens with McNabb, they can keep him or even redo his deal.
There is a reason the same teams are on top year after year, teams like the Eagles. They make smart deals. Compare them to the Redskins, who panicked last year after a starting DE was injured in camp and traded a bunch of picks to the Dolphins for a used up Jason Taylor. He was awful and a poor fit for the Skins scheme. How effective can a 220 pound DE be in the NFC East anyway? They could have used those picks to shore up their terrible O line.
