Mike Tomlin Redeems himself.

Apparently the reason the steelers didnt come out was because they didnt want to be involved in this shit one way or another, the media is the one who created the shit storm on them.

That's what I was saying originally. I just think he went about it the wrong way - you can't avoid the controversy by removing yourself from it when you are the head coach of an NFL team.

Admittedly there might have been better ways to handle it, but Tomlin is a no-nonsense guy, I was torn after Sunday because ive been a die hard Steelers fan my whole life, thankfully i didnt have any lighter luid or a half a dozen jerseys would have gotten lit on fire, but the story atleast makes a little more sense now.

Not sure if you saw the town hall yesterday but Heins Ward was on CNN and he also gave all the answers i wanted to hear.

Exactly right. Trying to play both sides of the fence on this issue is not the way to go. The coward Jerry Jones is trying to play that game. Nope, this is one time where neutral doesn't get it. Pick a side. Football game day is not for political activism, period. Especially when this whole "cultural crisis" is a figment of the imagination. Couple a thugs gets gunned down isn't a crisis.

I knew there was a reason I liked you! Steelers are my team as well.

Not sure i agree with you on that one, neutral is the best way in this scenario IMO, unfortunately what they did was not percieved as being neutral, but if im a business owner, i just want to stay in the middle i dont want to piss off either side, its just bad for business, IMO it would have looked alot worse if half the team is kneeling, the Villanueva thing appears to be a mistake, Villanueva said he didnt realise he had walked out twenty feet further than the rest of the team so it was percieved the wrong way.

I think it is unlikely that staying off the sideline was not an action supporting the protest.
I would have thought he was to smart of a guy. He is a successful NFL coach.

Instead of passing judgement... I will remain on the sidelines. pun intended.
Do you guys really think he was not making a statement by keeping his team off the field?

I viewed staying off the field as tantamount to endorsing the protests. I can understand that others saw it as a way of avoiding needless controversy. I would have preferred to have a coach and ownership that took the stand that if you want to profit from this game and from being a member of this team, you will damn sure stand for the Anthem.

I don't get the arm linking. What does it signify? That I back the right of my teammate to dishonor the flag? Nice. Still, that is lightyears preferable to the truly disgusting display put on by Jerry Jones and the Cowboys. This is a team that was denied the right to honor Dallas police officers who were murdered by a BLM thug. So now even the owner is kneeling to demonstrate solidarity with the same thugs?

If the NFL Commissioner, Owners and Coaches want to be neutral then the proper way to handle this would be going back to rules prior to 2009 when players did not take the field until after the National Anthem. Do that, along with issuing a statement that they're in the business of playing football, that they and the players will not use game day to make political statements of any kind. Simple. Well, the purists, both left and right wouldn't be happy, but they are in the minority. A loud and vocal minority, but a minority none the less.
Had they done this day one, it's a long gone issue. Now it may be too late to do anything to eliminate the problem. people are dug in on all sides.
