When you're the leader of a country, and you implement a policy there SHOULD be some expected benefit to the country for that policy.
What is the expected benefit to Germany of it's open borders policy?
If the world consisted only of the EU and no place else there might be a perceived benefit to it, but that is not the world we live in. It's like implementing a no umbrellas policy when it's not raining and then being surprised you get wet when the inevitable storms occur. It's irrational utopianism at it's worst.
In the US we have a problem with immigrants from Mexico and South America. Luckily for us the Syrians have a long swim to get to New York City.
Our leaders need to get a realistic view of the world.
