Ivanovich, I perfectly understand the point you have made. Nevertheless I believe the bombardment and destroying the infrastructure of Lebanon will inevitably give the terrorists more power and what they need. I think diplomatic solutions through international community are superior!
If we were to look at the actions (independent of the motives) we see exactly the same from both sides.
Both sides are lobbing bombs, killing, wounding, maiming, and destroying infrastructure.
Yet, what seems to be important as a rationalization for the killing, wounding, maiming and destruction is the reason for the action.
Both sides claim self righteous positions, that they have been wronged so severely as to justify violence.
We have seen no open trial or judicial process, where all evidence from both sides was presented, where a verdict of "bomb them" was reached by an impartial party.
Clearly it is difficult to imagine that both sides are right. It is easier to think that one side is actually right. It is even easier to think that both sides are wrong.
I see both sides as being wrong. Neither party is willing to subject themselves to an independent party for a judicial process or binding arbitration.
They just fight each other like thugs in a school yard.
Yet, do the leaders go out and fight, put themselves in harm's way? Do they risk?
No, they don't. War is too easy for both sides. War is too painless for the leaders.
Israel can look to the US in Iraq and rationalize, "Hey, if they can do it in Iraq, why can't we?"

For all intents and purposes the independent conclusion has been reached, you just can't live with the fact that it's in Israel's favor.
PS any future independent group will absolutely undoubtedly conclude that Hezbollah must disarm (as they did before). I don't think even you would disagree. Then what, what good is it going to do, what is it going to solve, do you think Nasrallah will oblige?
The same UN wanted to have a cease fire resolution, but the US made it quite clear that they would exercise their power to block it.
