Edit: I know that the mega-successful traders that comprise this board won't think about the concepts enunciated by Reagan. Will 'Joe Sixpack'? How about his wife?

Now that is a great actor. Reading off the teleprompter and faking all the little mannerisms as if he isn't -- gotta admire that guy.

Good speech, too.

The commentator and his guest are talking toilets. They are selling dreams of personal financial glory at the expense of elements of basic human dignity such as universal health care for those who cannot afford it. I don't see the mutual exclusivity. Capitalism can be a beautiful thing, but not when this guy is getting obese on "pie" while the guy next to him cannot afford to treat his medical condition. And rather than agreeing to share the few crumbs he may need, he sells him on dreaming big, talking with his mouth full.

What is the matter with you people?

They don't want to share for the public good.

No more public roads, 'cause they're Marxist. What of the person who doesn't need to use them? No more firehalls, 'cause they're Marxist. My house isn't going to burn down. No more welfare, because I'm not poor. No universal healthcare because I'm not sick.

"Our revenues liberated by the discharge of the public debt, and its surplus applied to canals, roads, schools, etc., the farmer will see his government supported, his children educated, and the face of his country made a paradise by the contributions of the rich alone, without his being called on to spend a cent from his earnings."

It is true that things could be better-- no question. And there is much debate on who caused it; certainly there is a lot of blame to go around. I personally think both parties are at fault.

But what is being pointed out in the previous link I brought to the board raises issues that go against the very heart of us as a nation. Even with all the rating and raving from both sides of the two parties, I don't think anyone wants to see our nation turned into a socialistic government. You may disagree with what is being said but it should not be ignored

I have watched the media turn a deaf ear and blind eye to the issues that have been raised about Obama; it is no longer the power of the people to decide who will be president, it is the power of the media.

There is nothing wrong with change-- I think we all will agree that we need it. But those who hope for change and are willing to disregard common sense to embrace some illusive image of change is within itself deceiving.

We should not be willing to give up the freedoms our nation embraces just so we can see change.

We're socialistic right now, always have and always will be. It's just an argument about what mix is appropriate.

What freedoms do you feel will be lost?

Michelle Obama is so ugly when she joined an ugly contest, they said "Sorry, no professionals."

Michelle Obama is so ugly they push her face into dough to make monster cookies.

Michelle Obama is so ugly they filmed "Gorillas in the Mist" in her shower

Michelle Obama is so ugly for Halloween she is only allowed to trick or treat over the phone!

Michelle Obama is so ugly she made an onion cry.

Michelle Obama is so ugly she turned Medusa to stone!

Quote from stockerup:

I disagree with you that we are socialistic, although we have many social programs in place, we are nothing like some of the countries that I have visited in Europe.

Absolutely right -- on the spectrum they're simply more socialistic. It's all a matter of degree.

Your question about what freedoms will be lost is much more thought provoking and scary.

Well the reason I ask is because I don't see any connection between the two. As someone else pointed out, they aren't mutually exclusive. It's time for Republicans, and fiscal conservatives such as myself, to let go of this boogeyman.
