I call bullshit on this. Yes, it's not that hard to fly a small general aviation plane, provided you have good conditions and nothing goes wrong. When you're flying a commercial jet and you lose your engines on takeoff over NYC, you better pray someone like Scully or lucrum is at the controls.
Tom Wolfe called it "the right stuff". You either have it or you don't. Lucrum posted his pic a while back. You don't have to know anything about flying to know he's got it.
