Is there anyone who didnt see this coming?

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- The St. Louis Rams released defensive end Michael Sam on Saturday, the team announced.

Sam's efforts to become the first openly gay player in NFL history came up just short in a competition against undrafted rookie Ethan Westbrooks.

Westbrooks is one of nine defensive linemen to land a roster spot.

Sam officially hit waivers Saturday at 4 p.m. ET when all NFL teams had to trim their rosters down to the league-mandated 53 players. From there, the other 31 teams will have 24 hours to put in a claim for Sam.

According to one league source, the Rams would like to bring Sam back to their 10-man practice squad.

The Rams spent a seventh-round draft pick, No. 249 overall, on Sam in May's draft. In arriving in St. Louis, Sam joined a team about two hours from the Missouri campus where he went to school, but also one loaded with defensive line talent. Sam put together a solid preseason performance, coming up with 11 tackles and three sacks. In Thursday night's preseason finale against Miami, Sam finished his preseason work with a team-high six tackles.

After the game, coach Jeff Fisher offered an endorsement of Sam's ability.

"I believe he can play in this league," Fisher said.

Teams can begin signing players waived in the final round of cuts after the waiver period

No, but its enough to get a team to waste the third last pick in the draft on a talentless player who never even stood a chance of making it, in an attempt to prove the NFL is down with the gay scene.
 
The Rams are obviously nothing but racists and homophobes. What other explanation can there be? Wait till the rioters in Ferguson get wind of this. I suspect MSNBC will be moving their crew down the street to Rams park to provide live minute by minute coverage of the riots about to take place there.

Wait for Douche Bag to chime in .... if he'd been white he'd have made the team. But being black I guess it was racial profiling.
 
Considering we as a nation had to give an unqualified black man the opportunity to be president, it should come as no surprise we had to give a less than qualified homosexual a chance to make the team. The difference being the Rams are a private enterprise. Produce or you're gone. Not so much in government, but we did have a chance to "cut" Obama after 4 years of abject failure. The country was just too stupid to do it. Next up...Hillary.
 
Maybe the Rams had to sacrifice him for the good of the team.

Who knows what it might do for morale if one of the guys was walking around the locker room and shower with a raging boner?
