Michael Covel Says: Greed Is Good

Quote from Trend Following:

...the content of the 'Trend Following' book was/is very unique on several fronts...
Sorry, but TF was fluff that read like a sermon. It would have made for a good mainstream magazine article. But you had pages to fill...

what is this self-replicating self-promotion? it's like a snowball, it gets bigger and bigger . . .

You have correctly identified yourself as an annoying figment of my imagination.

Anyway, I'll post up after I finish Covel's book. I am sort of surprised to find all kinds of websites, forums, blogs etc featuring Covel all of a sudden. Maybe I'd just never noticed before.

It's starting to sound more and more like a marketing competition, and less about 2 people trying to narrate about an extremely interesting experiment in the '80's.

After the first edition of "The Complete TurtleTrader" (Oct 07) came out there was clearly acrimony among a small minority over the content of my book. I ended up publishing that acrimony verbatim in the paperback edition of "The Complete TurtleTrader" (Feb 09). There is a new Afterword in the Feb 09 paperback edition that talks to drama surrounding the Turtles. At the end of the day "The Complete TurtleTrader" is the only source for the complete story -- rules, players, backstory, drama, performance, etc.

Quote from Ms Varima-Garch:

why is it a "complete" turtle trader?

It is the only book covering the story of Richard Dennis and his student Turtles completely. It is not an account that leaves details out. I did not think the word "complete" was needed, but publishers make weird calls sometimes.

What exactly is the the Covel/Faith war all about??

surf:confused:

Pick up the paperback edition of my book. The one with the Afterword. The Afterword is pretty clear about the experience of putting a book together about this group of people. Not easy.

Sounds like it might be an interesting book and perhaps the kind I'd like to read...if only it were written by someone else...:D

There was real paranoia over my book from the Turtles before they saw it. I was up to 4 Turtle lawsuit threats. Once they saw the book that all went away and it has been well received by the players involved. Turtle Liz Cheval now even pays Google for her ad to pop up when my name is typed in...and she did not want a book at first!
