Mandated by the governor (who has a (D) next to his name, fwiw.)
I watched the speech after I heard casinos are shutting down.
While his points were good in general, and I think it's smart to shut down non-essential business temporarily, Las Vegas is a very special case and he didn't consider it. Most of the state is employed by the casinos in some capacity with many of them being part time + tip employees. All of these people were just laid off. There is a bustling small business scene in the downtown area that will probably be killed off by this. The construction of the stadium, which was supposed to bring 30,000 jobs, will now be halted probably indefinitely. Las Vegas's housing market is now imperiled by this.
As much as I dislike him and his anti-American views at the most surface level what he did made sense. Nevada's testing is apparently behind everywhere else. Without a view into the total damage caused by the virus so far you have to take drastic measures. The part that disappointed me with his speech was he was so cavalier with it. He even mentioned he hopes that Trump gives money to everyone. He presented no actual solution to the tens of thousands or MORE that are now unemployed. These are the people who will be stealing from people's carts in stores and breaking into mailboxes in a few months if the 30 day quarantine isn't lifted promptly.
have clothes dry cleaned, or getting a new set of tires. You can't! For 30 days!
The local news stated afterwards that, from what it looks like, mechanics and laundromats will remain open.
