Mexico's central bank raises interest rates to control inflation

MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Mexico's Central Bank is raising interest rates to combat inflation.
The central bank says it's raising the key rate by 25 basis points to 7.75 percent from 7.5 percent. Friday's announcement marks the first time since October 2007 that the bank has raised rates.

The move follows the central bank's announcement that annual inflation rose to 4.95 percent in May, the fastest pace in more than three years. Food and oil led the price hikes.
