Choosing to live in one of the most violent and lawless places on the planet it doesn't take much to get in the way of a bullet. They have also had an ongoing feud with the drug cartels for several years. They have entered local politics and got involved with people and things which directly impact the cartel drug business. Bottom line, they are not down there on some mission to spread the word of God. They are well armed themselves, have had multiple run ins with the cartels and have shown no fear or intent to pack up and leave. Kudos to them for that, but it's essentially a combat zone, they know that, have known that for decades and choose to stay. Choices have consequences and their choices should not be our problem to fix. If this is a car full of American tourists, completely different story. They ain't tourists and they aren't all that innocent either. It's on them to leave or stay and fight it out. What did the Mormon family do to instigate their massacre at the hands of the cartels ? Sorry. I'm missing this. Captain want to explain ?
They're not really Americans as in some visiting tourist. More like expats who choose to live in another country. Not our job to protect them.

No, we're too busy protecting the kurds, afghans, Israelis, Ukrainians et al. We can't waste our resources protecting actual American citizens living a few miles from our border. Three mothers and six children.
I get it. You see how powerful and violent the cartels are and how they have government protection both in mexico and here. Let's just pretend everything is fine and let a few more million of them in.
millions of cartels. Why not billions?
This killing has nothing to do with illegal immigration or border security, don't conflate the two to push a narrative. The point is they are not living within our borders, and haven't for decades. They are not Americans in the truest sense of the word. They deserve no US protection, nor are we obligated to avenge their deaths. The question remains, why do people who have other options choose to live in the land of the lawless? That decision is only made when their is some personal benefit to living in, and with the lawlessness. No, we're too busy protecting the kurds, afghans, Israelis, Ukrainians et al.
