Merkel warns solving the sovereign debt crisis in the eurozone will take years

Sarkozy was quoted saying a few days ago: "Merkel is leading Europe into a catastrophe".

But now I'm wondering: is Merkel only inept as a leader, caring only about her own political career and not about its own country, or does she suffer some kind of mental disorder ?
