I think the argument is that you don't really need to know english to paint your nude body and shake down the tourists in New York and the spirit of the Statue of Liberty is to welcome them.
This country was made great by people coming from Mexico and beyond to dance nude in New York. Just think of what this country would be like if your forefathers had not been able to do that because they could not speak english.
 
If they went based on merit based immigration, the Chinese and the Indians would dominate the ranks. When Nixon opened the door to Asian immigration in the late 60's/early 70's a flood of brown and yellow people came in; and they are the ones who created the "smart" Asian stereotype.

Clearly we can't let that happen. There are already too many Asian CEO's in tech.
 
inb4 China and India flood immigration system (largest English speaking populations with decent so-so graduates).
 
I disagree with merit based immigration. It is time for the US to stop getting a free ride off 95.6% of the non-American world. The US is pretty small, just 4.4% of global population, but has huge needs. The PR dept has been good but it is not the World that needs the US, it is very very much the opposite.

It would be very amusing to see the faces of many boomer manchildren if foreign kids and young graduates stayed at home and worked in their domestic economies. The US would maybe consider returning to slavery, snatching students from universities ;)

The US is already an idiocracy in ways if it were to reply on it's own kids. The math is obvious, you can't fill the vast number gifted to genius level positions required from domestic production. Picking fruit is hard work too..

Wake up call of the century?

Excuse, but you may want to put the kool-aid down. I thought you were trying to argue against merit based immigration. Then you go on to make a case for it. Hot weather where you are? - or your undies are too tight and restricting blood flow?

When the good ones get blocked from the US they move to countries like Canada. Exactly how my wife ended up here after getting her Masters in the US. Our gain and your loss. And I suppose Trump's election is part of why my daughter doesn't want to live in California even though that's where her employer is located.

I can agree that many of the immigrants living in Toronto working in the Tech/IT sector went to Canada after they were unable to get visas to work in the U.S. Many of these immigrants are highly skilled and make a great addition to the Canadian economy and population. Our loss is Canada's gain.
 
Merit based is the way to go. Racist democrats think this is just about getting more white people here, as if brown/black people don't have any smart or intelligent people to offer to our country.
