The reality is that Trump greatly overvalued his assets before he got into office; he then proceeded to increase his personal net worth via grifting and corruption. Trump did not lose money while in office. In fact all of the "campaign donations" to him and other grifting kept him afloat from a cash perspective.

I think the campaign and following grift bought his business's a lifeline. The NYT report several years ago was super intreresting. he was hemorraging money left and right.
