I have wondered in the past if there aren't actually a few people who don't show up on these lists. I am guessing there are people who stay private with their wealth and are able to keep it that way as they don't have reportable ownership in a particular company, or a position that puts them in the public crosshairs.

I know at least two people whose NW is well north of the $100M mark (one is most likely over $500M), and you'd never know it by any external marker. Just searched for both, and - nope, nothing outside the usual "white pages" type listing. I'd imagine anyone in that category who doesn't have to be in the public eye avoids it like the plague - modulo the few individuals who have... issues. I'm pretty sure we can all figure the risks of being known for having that kind of money, and I can't see any level of status/fame that could possibly be worth that. Especially if you have a family.

yea like the guy i know who funded mark cuban's dream - there are many who hide their wealth only people who's business it promotes wanna be published.
 
I have 2 friends who I am pretty sure are in the category of insane wealth and they make no show of it whatsoever. One has gone back forth in the private world and government work and we never talk about it, but when I do get to see him(unfortunately not too often) he always covers whatever stupid adventure we come up with. The other does own a plane, but a single engine aerobatic plane nothing super fancy, and a couple motorcycles. Neither is married and they each have a Toyota Camry to drive around on a daily basis.
