Some very transmissible viruses require a vaccination rate above 95% to reach vaccinated herd immunity. This means that people in poor remote countries must be vaccinated as well to wipe the disease fully from the face of the earth.

Some of the existing diseases (with currently available vaccinations) kill of 20% or more of the unvaccinated population during outbreaks.

Now this week we saw studies which large segments of healthy people who were infected... either have negative antibodies or short lived antibodies.

Meaning our entire populations were exposed to each wave of covid.

Which would explain why the shapes of graphs of open border societies followed the same pattern... over and over.

Natural antibody immunity wanes and is not detectable at levels necessary to prevent reinfection in over 40% of the infected who recover six months after being afflicted. You cannot count on natural immunity to protect society from Covid.

This does not even touch on the horrible cost to society with deaths, hospitalization, and long Covid effects -- that natural infection brings about.

Vaccines are only about 200 years old...so how do you think we are still here?

How old are commercial flights? Connecting everyone to everyone else on the planet? (Hint: less than 200 years old)

You do understand how diseases spread, right?
You do understand you can't compare the effects of diseases 'back then;' to the effects of diseases today, right?

Simplified: The effects of diseases are much worse today, than they were 'back then' due to the ease and speed of human travels. Even without easy travel, some diseases still had a devastating effect on the population; and it would have been a lot worse had mass transit had been invented 'back then.'

But I understand you to be suggesting that since the human race wasn't completely wiped out, vaccines aren't necessary. We agree to disagree.

Wait.....did someone actually ask why didn't diseases spread around the world quickly before we had airplanes and cars and large populations of people who could afford to even travel and...less people in crowded cities?

Yeah why did NYC for example not have diseases effecting hundrds of thousands of people back in 1821 (2 hundred years ago..)

Someone should mention quarantines at ports for incoming ships, quarantine acts, and public health acts (which required those afflicted with disease not to come in contact with others -- i.e. they were locked down).
