I'd love to hear Jerry's business plan...
I know I mentioned it a few time on various message boards (you aren't the first one to ask )
Basically, we make money from registrations, affiliate arrangements with datafeed vendors, brokers, etc, licensing and advertisement. The ads used to be a huge revenue source. So much so that when we started, we actually discouraged registrations

. Those days are gone. At this point, the ads are basically there as an annoyance factor to encourage registrations. They do add some revenue, but only a fraction of what it used to be.
We try to get QuoteTracker to as many people as possible. The more people use it even without registering, the more will register it, subscribe to datafeeds and/or use brokers with which we have affiliate arrangements with. (and no, we don't have such arrangements with all the sites QT supports).
We look at the long term - if we give good support, and provide an excellent product, that person will stick with QT and will tell others. We don't do much advertising. Most of our users heard about us from a friend, or on message boards like this one. Giving high end support is one way to get people to remember you
Speaking of which (support) - we don't have phone support. We find that we can handle drastically more support requests and much faster via email and message boards. The biggest problem is getting people to email the first time instead of banging their head against the wall trying to fix the problem themselves for days, and then emailing us as a last resort. They are used to getting a reply to support email in days or weeks from other vendors, so they don't bother. That tends to change after the first encounter. Ask
