IB as an index source was recently added. Select OPTIONS/WebUpdate menu to get the configuration files. After that, it will be in the index panel.

NOTE TO IB USERS: we found a problem with IB backfill in QT versions 3.7.0B and below. If you have a problem backfilling futures symbols, get the beta version (its stable at this point):

Easyrider - Please note that the holidays are defined PER TIMEFRAME. Therefore, if you have symbols trading on multiple exchanges for which QT has different timeframes, you will need to update the holiday stuff for each one (if we did not do it already)

The problem I'm having is that after right clicking the Indices Panel and then clicking Edit Indices where it brings you to the Data Sources/Proxy menu IB does not show up on my list of possible index quote data sources. IB appears as an option for quotes as well as backfill and I can display quote data in a portfolio but not on the indices panel.

Should IB be appearing as a possible data source for indices? Do I need to do something else? Thanks.

Does anyone know if QT can be used for charting spreads (ie. using a formula instead of a ticker symbol)?

For example, using IQFeed as the data source, the symbol for NYSE Up Volume is VINA.Z and the symbol for NYSE Down Volume is VIND.Z. Is it possible for me to somehow have a chart for Up Volume minus Down Volume - perhaps by inputting (VINA.Z - VIND.Z) as the symbol to be plotted?

You can chart the NYSE up minus down volume by building a new portfolio that includes vina.z with a quantity of 1 and vind.z with a quantity of -1.

To view the chart just right click on the total row of the portfolio and select "Open Intraday Chart".

I would like to know the following symbols compatible with IB into QT

nasdaq 100 index
dow 30 index
dow e-mini futures
s&p advancers
S&P declines
SP A/D lines
RUT futures
RUT 2k index

The easiest way to find the symbols to enter into QT is to:
Enter the securities into TWS

Then look at the EXCHANGE and DESCRIPTION columns of TWS for the info needed to build the symbol:

EXCHANGE:?SYMBOL

Where the EXCHANGE is what is shown in TWS in the EXCHANGE column

? is one of the following:
nothing for stocks
. for options (period)
@ for futures
^ for Futures Option
# for CASH (Forex)
$ for index

and SYMBOL is what TWS shows on the END of the DESCRIPTION column.

For example:
GLOBEX:@ESM6
ECBOT:@YM JUN 06

NOTE: For symbols that have spaces in them, the number of spaces is VERY important. in the example above, you have to have 3 spaces after YM and 1 after JUN

I can help you find the symbols you may have problems with, but since I do not memorize the underlying symbols for the various securities, you would need to tell me what you would enter into TWS to get a quote on them.
 
on the chart tool bar, click the button that has a box, circle and line on it (2nd from right) and select TEXT. Then draw the area where you want the text to be and type in the text.
