I love QT, but I find there is a 1 tick lag in the price quote between my prophet.net realtime charts and the streaming optimized feed into my QT

Pros: Excellent program for tracking a diverse portfolio, especially if you have accounts with multiple brokerages. QT has an amazing array of technical indicators -- even one that Jerry instituted at my request. Good customer service.

Cons: Not good (and not really designed) for scalping-style daytrading, especially if you are constantly buying and selling the same security, such that you are simultaneously short and long.

The P&L cannot handle this circumstance. P&L also can't calculate complicated commission structures, fees, etc., on the fly.

On balance, still the general purpose investment tracking program best program for the price.

Why don't you change the quote source to Prophet.net STREAMING? That option has been there for quite a while.

Actually, depending on the broker, QT will have real-time P&L info on the Account Infopanel - Balances and/or on the Positions. For example, with MB Trading. And I would have thought that the way QT's transaction panel is designed where you can have the price field pegged to bid/ask/last, it lends itself particularly well to single stock trading.

BTW - we now have both Streaming and Trading APIs available for those interested in writing automated systems that will work with any datafeed and/or broker that QT supports (trading has not been configured for all brokers yet)

Jerry...that solution does help but it obviously is not ideal. 1% is the smallest number and it then applies to all charts.

EACH chart should have a quick scaling feature (maybe similar to what you have at the bottom for time).

A trader needs to quickly set the scale and not have to worry about it again. If price tries to go beyond the scale, the older data should be forced outside the screen. At the very least, have a setting to allow data to go outside the screen....just so the scale is never touched.

This is a feature that is extremely important to the traders I know. We cannot have a slow non-volatile day look as if we are having huge moves. We train our eyes to a scale and having that scale messed with while trading is unacceptable.

You have a hell of a piece of software here if this issue would be addressed. I would urge others reading this to let your voice be known on scaling to Jerry.

Thank you

Ive asked for this feature for the last couple of years for both QT and Sierra but no luck so far. I think this must be much harder to add than we think. I am using Sierra for now. This feature is so important to me that Im willing to pay the $40 a month for it. I think they add a lot of minor stuff and ignore the major stuff. All I need is price, volume, a couple of ma's and constant scaling.

Amen. Anyone writing code for Quotetracker should have that quote posted on their monitor. Sometimes I think developers are so worried about eye candy that they forget what the software is used for. Having a pretty looking screenshot and a ton of indicators for marketing seems to be priority.

It must be very difficult to add this feature or it probably would have been done by now. Any comments Jerry?

Thanks

Maybe when QT gets their historical chart thing going it will include
the constant scaling you all desire and need in order to be able to
trade... lets hope so. Sounds like it is a must for some and not for
others but oh well... to each their own...

Personally I dont understand how anyone can trade off charts when the price scale is constantly changing.

reiehaxm,

I hardly think adding multiple timeframe support, trading API, and all the other stuff we have done recently is eye candy for screenshots on the site. What you consider an essential feature, someone else thinks of as a major annoyance (and vice versa).

All YOU need may be "price, volume, a couple of ma's and constant scaling. ". Then Joe Shmoe comes by and says "All I need is XYZ indicator, Change from mid-day high and dynamic scaling of charts", then Marry comes by and says All I need.....

You get the picture. 28 hours in the day, and we have to sleep 4 of them

I apologize if you took my suggestion the wrong way. However, it does look as if others have been asking for this feature.

Are you considering upgrading the scaling function anytime in the near future?

Thanks for your prompt responses
