Our health should never have been attached to employment in the first place. Healthcare will never meet the fundamental requirements of a "free market" because demand is inelastic. All other industrialized nations except the United Sates have realized that. We are the laggards. All we have to do is copy the best and end this foolishness. It's obvious why we don't. The people that will make less money if we were to do that will fight tooth and nail to prevent it; just as those who who benefited from slavery fought tooth and nail to maintain it; just as the airlines fought against Amtrack and fight against high speed rail; just as the automobile industry fought public transportation; just as the pest control industry fought clordane; just as the cigarette industry denied that smoking caused lung cancer; just as the liquor industry fought prohibition; just as the arms industry fights peace and promotes fear, etc. etc. etc.
We are a nation of crises. We don't act until there is a crisis. Until then we maintain the status quo. Is it time to act on health care. Logically it is way past time. But we don't respond to logic. We are waiting for a crisis. Is the crisis here. I don't know. I suppose we will find out at the ballot box.
Exactly.
