This is representative of what our politicians think of the public... there is no crime that they cannot get away with.

Of course, Senator Meredith will have a lot to account for. He is, after all, one of of those in the legislature that opposed expanding Medicaid.
 
His ex wife apparently provided the material to his opponent. I am guessing his child support obligation ended after 18 years and she wanted more money. Her statement included this priceless line:


"I am and have been a single parent for 18 years. I want to raise my children and do not want to be the focus of any campaign."

That's why she released financial documents from 18 years ago to his political opponent? To avoid being part of any campaign? Yeah sure, and she doesn't carry grudges either.

How can someone who was making that much get assistance? Don't you have to provide some sort of supporting documentation, like a tax return?

It's an interesting question how to deal with this sort of disaster. Pols should ask themselves the question, WWBCD? What would Bill Clinton do? He dodged more scandals than the rest of our presidents combined. Of course, this guy is a republican so will have the media arrayed against him instead of supporting him, so it will be more difficult.

I think if I am him I say there was a temporary crisis in my business and I had no income or cash flow, so I was entitled to get assistance for a short period of time. I ended it when I was back on my feet. Then attack ex wife for trying to extort money and media for taking sides.

There are some apparent errors in your post. You say he engaged in medicaid fraud and use that to contrast his vote against expanding medicaid. Nice touch, but the article implies it was WIC assistance,not medicaid, although they do mention birth expenses. At best, it as unclear.

The issues about expanding medicaid are also far more complicated than being "for" or "against" the poor. The expansion involved taking federal funds now but obligating the state to enormous liabilities later. NC, as you are aware, has an enormous illegal immigrant population and they would be the primary beneficiaries of any expansion.

There are no errors in my post. Let's quote the first article "In 1996, the year Elizabeth Meredith received Medicaid and WIC support, the couple had an adjusted gross income of $95,000."

They used both Medicaid and WIC. The documents provided as evidence support this. Feel free to go read them.
 
Sorry, you're right. It does say that. I must say however the article,on the Durham TV station's website, seemed to lack objectivity to me. Unproven allegations were presented as fact. Clearly it was a hit piece, as was your post. Whatever, I will be interested in what his explanation is.

Shit, husband and wife make a COMBINED 95k in 1996? Piss ant money! Maybe they both should have Medicaid... And gotta love the Nazicrat who called the Gestapo press conference. If someone dug into his shit, GUARANTEE the felonies would make the above look like a penny on the train tracks. Gotta credit mr. Nazi ambulance chaser, as he has fooled even conservative republicans to condemn his opponent...
 
I think if you are going to smear an opponent, it's better to do it the week or two before the election. He has plenty of time to respond now. He can issue a statement that says it was a difficult time for the couple and he is not proud of having to take public assistance but that he was told he and his wife met the critieria. Then say he is very sorry that his wife has not been able to move on in the 18 years since their divorce and still is acting vindictively. He may lose the votes of a few women but he will get the votes of every divorced guy. Then refuse to say another word about it unless he can prove clearly that he did nothing wrong.

Lol! I agree! And if I were him, I'd get the parasite vote locked in with this gem! Can imagine saying, "see, I needed help, and will never take away yours." Ouch!! He does that, and the Nazicrat lawyer may as well go back to figuring out how to make refrigerator magnets stick to ambulances.
