McCain's VP Pick

Quote from Cesko:

- The oil companies do not set oil prices. The global market does. It is true they are making massive profits, but they are also paying incredible taxes. Exxon alone paid 27 BILLION in taxes. An additional withholding tax would be counter productive. It has been tried before and it was a disaster. Takes away incentive to explore for more oil which is a risky venture.
Long time profit margins are in line with any other industry (even lower compare to some). Anybody complaining about "excessive" profits is an uninformed idiot.

I'm no fan of neither taxes, subsidies or sector-specific tax-breaks... but they all exist and are part of the regulations for the US economy. You can't just ignore some parts of it; when you first have this system, you need to make it work. Excessive spending has created a tough problem, and you need to deal with it effectively. The Japanese, Chinese and others "own you"...
:p

The responsible thing to do is acknowledge the problem and start dealing with it, and of course it is not going to be painless.

lol ... you u guys keep saying she was a brilliant pick..... yet polls already have Biden ahead of her

This one??????

The latest nationwide survey, begun Friday afternoon after the McCain announcement of Palin as running mate and completed mid-afternoon today, shows McCain/Palin at 47%, compared to 45% support for Obama/Biden.

The Republican Party in Alaska hates Sarah Palin. So will Schumer, Clinton, Mutha and Pelosi when she gets to Washington.

Than why was she elected if they hate her?

Because the people voted. Not the party. And then, once in, she went to work. I'm pretty sure if they knew what she was going to do, they'd have pulled out the stops.

Someday, you'll be privy to some of the stuff I have experienced. Naked Shorting, fraud, etc all come with a common denominator - bribes, extortion, threats. It's ugly. I have so much respect for her just for stomping on the Stevens' machine. These type of guys play really ugly. There is one politician, a big National name, where we were told by someone in a position to know, 'he never has done anything (and it's a 30 year career), where it didn't put money in his pocket. And he's a Republican!!!!

In all seriousness, this has to stop. It turns our own citizens on each other. It's disruptive, anti - American, ugly, brutal.......pick an adjective. Just the possiblity that someone has the gumption to stop it is so heartening to me. I've had to get down on my hands and knees to some of these pricks, and I get back form letters supplied by the SEC, or by Moveon.org. How the hell did we get here? Is it going to be like Wall St? We'll have to come to the point of our own destruction before we stop it? The Clintons? They got rich off us, and fat ugly white women think she's great. I can't believe the stupidity.

Obama is the tool of a political machine. How did he rise so fast.?? Tony Rezco spotted him. tHe Machine greased the tracks for his rise. Do you not think they will come to him for favors? How'd that JFK thing turn out when he didn't pay back the favors? This is Buford Pusser in heels. And McCain is telling you he's after the graft with this pick.

Makes me think back to the beginning of my battle with Washington. There was this lobbyist that shall remain nameless. I think his name was Jack Ryan. Anyway, somehow he came to us. He was going to do this and that, knew how awful this NSS thing was - this is like 2002!!! We get to some point, and he wants us to grease him. Where we naive. Like saying to your pal, " I think the stripper with the big tits is falling for me." LOL. I like strippers. Polliticians and Lobbyist suck. You can't do right because it's right? well, they can't. They just can't.

Anyway, soon, I think soon, I'll be priveleged to share some of the details with you. The fall of Wall St. elite, which is imminent, will be like knocking down a rotten board. It will expose the DC machine. But in the meantime, Palin has the fraudsters on the Hill plenty scared. Every had your buddies Mom chew your ass? Nothing worse!!!! "Please, Lady!! Don't tell my Mom!!!" LOL

Quote from ZZZzzzzzzz:

"but I have a deep hatred of everything liberal"

Totalitarian thinking...

along the lines of Coulter, Limbaugh, Hannity, et. al who also hate everything liberal.

Certainly a real independent doesn't hate everything liberal or conservative...

When you hate everything about something, all you convert to your view is those who are looking to hate everything about something...

You have a point there. I was exaggerating though, which you could obviously not have known. Should have said everything economic that liberals propose. Basically, larger government. Every liberal I have ever seen wants more gov programs. I am prolly more libertarian than independent I guess. I do have "set' goals where an independent does not. I am for a minimum of national government intrusion. Defense and social security maybe. Leave everything else up to the states.

There are many social issues where I am very far to the left. Abortion rights, gun control, environment. I am about as left as you can get there.

Quote from acronym:

Laughable, you know damn well he will look to pick up "black" constituencies like cuba, (oops, nicaragua) venezueala (he's black, so, anti latin passive aggresiveness) who knows, he might see the wrongs in his homeland, and try and kick the japanese out of hawaii.

Jesus, you can be such an asshole sometimes.

You actually believe, he will do anything different at all, to any other prospective president.

If only, dick cheney, could take Obama out hunting, followed by a good BBQ at dubyas ranch, you know, the party differences would all be overcome, and the entire world would sing F**ing hymns by candelight, it could be sooooo special.

A world, at peace-except for the fucking muslims, and commies.

Ahhhhg.:)
You're silly. The only way Obama goes to war is if he thinks he can gain some prestige out of it, i.e. bin Laden walks into a cave in Pakistan and dares Obama to come and get him.

Other than that, BO will need permission from Europe and the UN before standing up to any kind of aggression on a large scale. Yeah, he may do some symbolic, harmless shit a la Clinton's missile attack on a pharmaceutical factory, but something serious? Can't offend our "allies" and have people disliking us, nosirree....Besides, what will the good Rev Wright think?

Find that rack yet?

Problem is that by historical standards, he should have received a much larger boost from the convention. Then you factor in the deep dissatisfaction with Bush, and dipping economy, and BO should be up 15 points min imo.

It seems to me that people have already made up their minds for the most part. Other than some major scandal, these two guys are going to be damn near even till the election. I believe that when many people say they are undecided, they are lying and just don't wish to reveal who they want. These two guys are so different, I find it weird that you wouldn't know which (if any) for which you were voting. I don't like either one of them, but I know who I am voting for.

Jayford,

just wanted to throw in some links for further reading. I have some friends that go to the objectivism seminars in the US every year, do speeches etc - but I do not agree on whole with objectivism, supernatural/naturalistic philosophical libertarianism or minarchism - although I think minarchism is very close to what I'd prefer, but structured differently. I usually get to a point with objectivists where they are unable to go further into details on epistemology.
:)

Well, as promised some interesting links - maybe some of you guys already have some ideas that you've picked up about your philosophical and political viewpoints over the years which are very coinciding with these... I sure have found out a lot more by reading up on other ideas through the years, but mostly start my views with the epistemology and phenomenology, thereafter going into the various aspects of systems theory, model theory etc and am closer in thinking to consequentialist libertarianism, although consequences are limited by the volatile nothingness and opaque details of future.
