This is neither a democrat nor republican issue, it's an ignorance issue, and it is much worse in Mississippi than the video clip might suggest. Not that there is anyone more ignorant than the mayoral candidate, but there are thousands like her in Mississippi. These folks have little likelihood of being elected, even in Mississippi, BUT THEY ARE ALLOWED TO VOTE! The real problem for Mississippi is three-fold: the churches; the public schools, the mayoral candidate being not necessarily an atypical student, and ignorance among the legislature and Governor's office.
Governor Phil Bryant, of "Personhood" Amendment fame, and the legislature have just finished debating whether "In God we Trust" should be added to the State Seal -- conclusion: it should. Last week, the "Religious Freedom Act" was passed, an act with only minor changes from the one recently vetoed in Arizona. Meanwhile a couple hundred thousand Mississippians have no access to routine medical care even though that care would cost the State not one cent more than it is already paying and would actually provide an
increase in State Revenues. The reason for this incredible stupidity: the Governors concern that "down the line" the Federal Government might change its mind.
If we, as individuals, used Governor Bryant's logic, none of us would bother to get out of bed!

N.B. Bryant's son Patrick is gay.
