CIA director: '28 pages' contain inaccurate information

CIA Director John Brennan said Sunday that releasing the 28 classified pages from the 9/11 Commission report would be a mistake because they contain inaccurate, un-vetted information that could be used to tie Saudi Arabia to the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

"This chapter was kept out because of concerns about sensitive methods, investigative actions, and the investigation of 9/11 was still underway in 2002," Brennan said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

NYC is a pretty Saudi-friendly city, they could probably get away with anything there without being watched too closely. :)

I watched that interview. He was speaking in Washington bureaucratese, a variation of standard English. Luckily I can interpret his remarks for you.

"The 28 pages contained embarrassing revelations that proved SA not only knew about the 9/11 plot, but actively assisted it. This is extremely awkward for us, not only because we have pretended the opposite all these years but also because of all the money they provide to things like the Clinton Foundation and a lot of PR and law firms, not to mention Wall Street. And they are our best customer for big ticket military items. In addition, the whole mess makes us look like fools because we actually were watching these people, yet didn't connect the dots. We have all just decided to avert our eyes and not rock the boat, so back off."

That's certainly possible, but why would the CIA head involve himself in that kind of scandal that will certainly eventually come out?

It seems a bit far-fetched to me that the conspiracy goes that deep. So many people would have to be holding their tongue it becomes a hornets nest of things getting out of hand for them. My first guess is that they are trying to do their due diligence and not indite anyone carelessly.

Occam's Razor. Due Process.

I come to that conclusion in because of all the other lies he told in the short and exceedingly cordial interview. He said the reason for ISIS was poor governance, poverty and lack of economic opportunity. No mention of radical islam.

He said the 9/11 report concluded that there was no involvement by the Saudi government. comforting, except the actual report carefully stated there was no evidence of involvement by senior levels of the Saudi government. The 28 pages supposedly have reports of clear involvement by lower level Saudi consulate officials. CIA may have been running some of the people who assisted the terrorists as agents. Embarrassing.

We know this administration is not shy about releasing information, even if it compromises intel methods and assets, when it serves their interests. The fact they won't release this and the dubious excuses they are using leads me to believe there is stuff in it that will embarrass the CIA and create a lot of hostility against the Saudis.

Political accommodation and expediency at its finest.

Bill passes allowing 9/11 victims to sue Saudis, despite White House veto threat

The White House on Friday reiterated that President Barack Obamawould veto a bill that would allow the families of the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks to sue Saudi Arabia's government for damages.

The House of Representatives was expected to vote on the bill on Friday. The Senate passed it unanimously in May.

"We are in the same place we were the last time," the White House official said on Friday. Both Obama and a White House spokesman said in April the president would veto the bill....
