Maverick and Surf,

I want to know, what emotions/feelings do you go through when people comment about your overall p&l ? Did the comments generated any negative feelings and if so , what type?

thx

Honestly, this thread has gone so far off topic that it's no longer about the combine and instead is about everything but. So no, I really have no issues with the public scrutiny. I think it might be worse for a newbie trader who still has a tendency to get emotional about things. I don't get emotional about ET or trading. I also don't have any ego attached to this. I don't think Surf or Austin do either. It's unfortunate this thread has attracted as many trolls as it has but that is the nature of ET now.

Well anyways, figured I might as well derail the on-going dialog here with a combine post.

Began the morning at +$2,250 before costs in CL trading partial size into the early decline. Should of just held that 5-lot into the pit session open... there was the first of two +100 cent CL moves I was in. The second one was back up again.

Real-money trading + $2,000 early success = shutdown mode for the day. We discussed that before. But I'm chasing performance here, so we partied on.

Gave back that CL gain in the early buzz, then made it back again into the subsequent ramp. Price action during this final day of Nov - Dec rollover was all spastic v-turns and spike-drops. No way to put on methodical size... all 5-lots or less both ways.

ZS gave an early buy signal near 1530, I set my order for that to fill, it blew thru and blew away straight to 1548 highs soon after. Then it spent the remaining 3+ hours hung up sideways like two dogs mating. Never moved more than a few cents up or down.

Had I caught that lone ZS signal filled, would have been a solid day. Had the CL not been rollover completion spastic, ditto. But it finished like it did, and that's that.

**

Six of seven sessions so far we've reached $2,000+ gains (or greater) at some point in the session before deep draws. The other one was a straight-down loser where we never sniffed green all session. Again, real money trading + shutdown at the profit mark or above = methodical success.

Three sessions left, need roughly +$9,000 total or $3,000 daily average to reach the profit objective part of requirements. Pretty solid chance we do that and more. The rest of criteria remains to be seen.

See you tomorrow

Nice job today Austin! How long have you been actively trading futures?

You predicted the major troll influx prior to the thread even being launched. Very accurate!

When Michael called me I warned him about this. I told him that the "other" message board (BM) was a much better venue for this as the maturity level is much higher. I have no idea why that is. Most message boards have a pretty low common denominator. For some reason BM is a higher quality. But regardless, Michael assured me the trolling would not bother him.

I know people say this a lot, that ET was much better years ago, but it really is true. I challenge anyone to go back into the old archives and find any thread where people behaved so childishly. It simply didn't exist. And I'm talking about the period from 1999 to 2004.

My advice to anyone doing the combine is just pick one product. That makes the metrics MUCH easier. My second word of advice...trade oil!

Yes, oil is the way to go for the combine. I bet monst funded traders play oil or other volatile instruments. The question is: How long will they survive?
Prop would rather hire an ES-trader who generates 4 ticks / day with small risk.....

Whatsoever gj MAV, your account is up!

BM sweeps out the trash daily.

forever, is the answer

for the life of me I cannot think of a futures symbol that sucks any worse for profitable trading than ES right now. it is hands down the worst short-term trading symbol with by far the largest percentage of losing traders wallowing in that mire

seems like forever now :)

Long enough to know I can pass this combine if I focus real hard, or ace the next one if I work equally hard, disciplined and smart.

The one session where I swung from +$3,100 to -$2,900 start to finish is the pivotal hinge to this round. I'd like to have that one back one more time... but there is no "reset" button inside this sim program.

Let's put a number on a long time. I have only traded futures once in my life for daytrading and that was 4 years ago. I think it's a good point of reference for people to gauge how hard this combine is. I'm not the best barometer at this point because I just don't have enough hours in this yet.

My guess is, I could pass this combine but I would need probably 4 to 6 more to get there. As I've said before, this is a marathon, not a sprint. Futures trade very different then stocks. I spent two years daytrading stocks. Even that took me 6 months to get profitable and I spent 4 to 5 hours every night going over the tape from each day. It's all about putting in enough screen time.
