Maverick74 and marketsurfer's TopstepTrader Combine (daily trade reports and journal)

Quote from Topsurfi:

I agree - its such a shame. The thread was spoiled like so many other threads. Maybe it would make sense to open threads where only certain people are allowed to post. That would leave the thread clean and you can focus on what you are interested in.
I think trading unfortunately allocates a lot of failed and angry people as it seems.
I could never take part in such a combine as it would affect my real trading, not so much regarding the time I need but more the psychological effects.

After awhile, none of that mental stuff affects you. I trade personal and combine alongside one another in CL, never give it a moment's thought about either except for the difference in trade window's application.

As for the angry = cynical men? They haunt every message regardless of topic. I see the same personalities in hunting, fishing, shooting, bodybuilding message boards as here. Anywhere you gather men together, you have the same dynamics at work.

please publish these in a larger size, I can only open 180*165 pixels, and they are obviously unreadable, cheers

Use your browser's zoom function. These are already way too big for a normal laptop screen size, ET really needs to fix this - taking screen resolution in consideration when displaying images, I'm tired of blocking austinp's screenshots.

Hmmm, the TA brigade claims differently. In fact, their leader calls her system an ATM machine---

The pl. thread is hardly a controlled environment for testing. I agree, 10 days is too short, but at least it's a start. Why do the trading gurus here avoid it for the most part?

"Their leader"? If she claims that, then fine by me. It sounds to me more like an emotional statement but I might be wrong.

A 10-day sample is not even a start, one can easily lose money for that period while making a "killing" quarterly, never mind annually.

Most avoid it as they have nothing to prove to outsiders. With a solid methodology, one really does not want any attention regarding that - it's pure risk with little potential reward that is most likely just mental masturbation.
I'm more interested in you now from a psychological aspect (persistent obsessive denial).

Quote from austinp:

What you're missing is the part about upside negotiable clause. Let's say after six month's of trading and +$10,000 per month average profits, the leverage doubles to 30 contracts. After one year and similar steady growth, leverage doubles to 60 contracts. Or more.

Bottom line it is free money to work with... alongside one's own. How hard is it for people to grasp it's not an either/or thing? If you don't think you can make at least +$30,000 to reach the 80% mark, why even bother applying in the first place?

Lastly, why do so many people here in the thread with zero personal intentions of being involved waste so much of their own precious time and energy posting? It'd be like me frequenting a thread about trading stock pairs or gamma scalping options or anything else I couldn't care less about.

Obviously I've given this whole process a lot of thought and consideration before dedicating some of my time and energy to it. Unlike most of the people wasting their time = lives here, I have a reason for doing so.

Nobody has time to waste in life... unless they are completely lifeless and empty. Think about that for a minute. What kind of guy spends endless hours in this site obsessing over who, what and where? How empty and pathetic is that daily existence they endure?

LOL....C'mon, man, I asked a simple question regarding a reply that you posted to me earlier that I didn't understand at the time. Let's not get all philosophical about how posting on this site is wasting time. Of course it's wasting time, but it's the middle of the night and I'm up anyway. My sleep has been crap tonight; I've been waking up every few hours to check on my overnight hold. I know yesterday was day 1 of the retrace in the indices and I should be feeling pretty good about it but I have an uneasy feeling about this one...can't explain it...it's just a gut feeling.

In any case, I'm sure you know what you're doing with the combine thing and have considered all the angles on the funding aspect. The whole concept is new and also very interesting, and I did take a bit of time tonight to read the website. However, I have no interest in it for myself, and, as you say, it's a waste of time to consider it further. I agree.

Best of luck to you.

Can't speak for everyone, but I started posting here since 2005, before was even consistent, so ET is kind of social habit among other things, such as the many great people I met here during these years. :)

Yes, you are completely wrong and your defense is clearly an emotional statement in total. If you have nothing to prove to outsiders, why do you post here under an alias? What's the driving force for posting? In my case, its to gain knowledge and fodder for my writings by questioning and sometimes provoking. Why do you post?

My statement "their leader" is metaphorical, as this person makes the most extraordinary claims on this board, not to mention under going the greatest improvement in skill and ability since trading one lots on a simulator ( as documented here) in 2009/10. What is even more intriguing is the intuitive, yet objective ability to read charts that led to this success that is written about again and again. Why would this person post on elite if they don't want attention? Why set yourself up as a mentor of many others if you don't want attention? Your premise doesn't make sense provided the circumstances. Not to mention the ALIAS nature of this board.

Pure risk? It's on a simulator with the only risk being that of ego if your skill does not match your online reputation.
Which, I surmise is the case here, along with all the other TA bragarts who exist only in cyberspace.

Nice to see I have acquired your interest. Any other questions?

So, whether TA has merit or not depends solely on what NoDoji does and says, according to you.

People post here for a variety of reasons, I do it mostly for entertainment purposes and the occasional piece of Wall Street news which may or may not be relevant.

Traders who trade a methodology do not want to reveal anything about it, giving out timing methods is as good as making it public. The market is quite constrained for liquidity, especially nowadays. (Possibly) giving up one's edge for 15 minutes of ET fame is a bad trade in every aspect.

No, but it's a step to separate the hyperbole from reality.

I don't disagree that the test is too small and not revealing a working method. However, as a mentor who makes extraordinary claims, requesting that those claims be tested in a controlled environment isn't outrageous. As you say, if the method is so good, why mentor others about it? There's a disconnect here.

Interesting post. So 20% yearly consistent is considered to be a good % return by most people?

You folks really are living in the land of delusion. If you could consistently post 20% per year returns, you would be ranked among the top money managers of all time. ALL TIME!

Why delusion? I asked the question, not made any claim.

Thanks for answering the question. :)
