I dunno. I'm really liking that we've been in Afghanistan for 17 years and look forward to another 17 more. Add to that the billions (trillions!) we've spent and what exactly has been accomplished? More war!!!! Dead bodies, missing limbs, and traumatized vets.

Disappointing. I really wish Trump could me more professional about the departures of the people who choose to resign, or even those fired. It's not good business to trash people publicly.
That said, I am conflicted about pulling troops out of these shitholes, or having some presence there. Endless wars are nonsense, especially considering these people have been at war for centuries, will be at war for centuries to come. How much of a threat are they to us, I mean a real threat? I have said it before and stick by it. Put them all on notice. One terrorist attack on U.S. soil, and we nuke the entire region. Other than that, kill each other to your hearts content. Done with it.

I knew I had turned on this war machine and when friends son showed up at one of my kid's baseball games in uniform. Usually I thought it was cool to see guys in uniform ...
But, for the first time I said to myself... poor bastard is being used.
I don't trust either sides politicians to do the right thing...

Twas a bad sign when Bush started arguing that we could not leave Afg because the men would return to beating the women again- as if they ever stopped. Classic case of "mission creep."

Meanwhile he was arguing that Islam is the religion of peace.

You had to believe that if we were going to be in Afg as long as muslim men were still beating their wives that we were going to be there for a while. It's kinda like what they do, isn't it?

Funny, that's what we said when your blood thirsty guys went looking for non-existent WMDs. We got called traitors for not backing up an invasion of an "innocent" country.

You're also confounding conflicts, which is convenient. We're talking Syria here, which was Mattis's main beef.

Trump is pulling out because US is spending too much on middle east countries.
ISIS and the likes are threats to Iran, Russia and Israel (and other countries in the region). Trump wants them to handle using their own resources.

The top aide to former Defense Secretary James Mattis, who resigned in protest over President Donald Trump’s plan to withdraw forces from Syria, will also resign, reports Axios.

Rear Adm. Kevin Sweeney was chief of staff for Mattis, and insiders worry that there will now be a lack of institutional knowledge inside the Pentagon.

“In normal times, the resignation of a chief of staff following the departure of a secretary of defense would not only be seen as unsurprising, but as expected,” former Pentagon official Brent Colburn told the outlet. “These are not normal times. With so many leadership gaps in the building, and so much uncertainty about future leadership, this will just add to the growing sense of instability in an institution that thrives on predictability.”

I cringe at that simpletons naive understanding of Geo Politics, World history and the way he lectures. You can always feel the unease and movement in a room when he pontificates.
But I forget, Trump knows more about anything than anyone.

Chief if Staff at DoD resigned yesterday or the day before after Trump suggests he can declare a state of emergency and have the military undertake building a border wall without congress.
