Judge formally accepts guilty plea from Gaetz wingman Joel Greenberg

Former Seminole County, Florida tax collector Joel Greenberg is officially guilty of six criminal counts, a judge announced on Thursday.

Greenberg, described as the wingman of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), pleaded guilty in May to sex trafficking of a child, production of a false document, aggravated identity theft, wire fraud, stalking, and conspiracy to commit an offense against the U.S.

The Florida Republican agreed to cooperate with investigators in exchange fore 27 counts being dismissed. He must also pay $655,000 in restitution.

The investigation of Greenberg reportedly alerted authorities to potential wrongdoing by Gaetz, who is reportedly under investigation for sex trafficking of a child involving the same girl as in Greenberg's crimes. That investigation reportedly resulted in Gaetz being investigated for obstruction of justice.

Let's see what Ron DeSantis' best buddy has been up to. Oh, Matt Gaetz is about to add Obstruction of Justice to the already lengthy list of charges against him. I guess Matt may soon learn that obstruction of justice isn't just a minor crime.

Matt Gaetz now under investigation for possible obstruction of justice: report

Rep. Matt Gaetz's (R-FL) legal troubles just got worse, according to a Politico report late Wednesday. Federal prosecutors are looking into whether Gaetz obstructed justice when he held a phone call with a witness in the sex crimes case against his friend Joel Greenberg.

Two sources told Politico that the witness was one of a group of women who were in Gaetz's life around the time he and Greenberg were partying it up in Florida. A phone call between Gaetz's ex-girlfriend and the witness added Gaetz to the phone call. It's unknown what was said, but that call has become part of a possible obstruction of justice charge.

Gaetz continues to deny any wrongdoing in Greenberg's case, and said that he never paid for sex, nor did he have sex with an underage girl, or pay to take her across state lines.

"Congressman Gaetz pursues justice, he doesn't obstruct it," a statement from Gaetz's office said. "The anonymous allegations have thus far amounted to lies, wrapped in leaks, rooted in an extortion plot by a former DOJ official. After two months, there is still not a single on-record accusation of misconduct, and now the 'story' is changing yet again."

Just Newsmax's official spokesperson, Brian Peterson. Yep, just one source.

Newsmax turned down embattled Republican Matt Gaetz for a job -spokesperson
https://www.reuters.com/world/us/ne...pokesperson-2021-06-07/?utm_source=reddit.com

Conservative media outlet Newsmax, a favorite of former President Donald Trump's, rejected embattled Republican U.S. Representative Matt Gaetz's request for a job, a spokesperson for the website said on Monday.

Gaetz contacted Newsmax early this year, a source at the outlet said. That was around the time that news broke Gaetz was the subject of a federal investigation into possible sex trafficking of a minor.

Investigators are seeking to determine whether Gaetz had sex with a 17-year-old, according to news reports and a law enforcement source who spoke with Reuters. He has not been charged with any crimes and has repeatedly denied wrongdoing.

Spokespeople for Gaetz, a vocal Trump supporter, had no immediate comment about any Newsmax job rejection.

"Newsmax has had no plans to hire Rep. Gaetz," said Brian Peterson, a spokesperson for the website.

A source familiar with Newsmax's policies said: "Earlier this year, (Gaetz) reached out and said he might leave Congress early and was interested in TV work."

The three-term Florida congressman's approach to Newsmax management was "just a conversation" and Newsmax "never told him we were interested" in hiring him, the source said.

Joel Greenberg, a Gaetz associate and former Florida county official, recently pleaded guilty to charges of trafficking a female minor to other adult men who engaged in sex acts with the minor. Prosecutors named no other men.

Greenberg has agreed to cooperate with prosecutors as part of his plea agreement.

Interviewed in May by Newsmax, Gaetz said: "The anonymous allegations against me range from total distortions of my life to these crazy and wild conspiracy theories that will never be proven, but they always come for the fighters."
