Matlab, Trading and Portfolio Management

Who is using Matlab for Time Series analysis and Portfolio Optimization? Is it the solution to use or are there better solutions?

I'm looking for a software plattform on which I can develop trading and investment strategies, some quantitative research and regular portfolio optimization with capital market line optimization and value at risk elements. Is Matlab the way to go?

What is the best Framework to work with for financial analysis?

I have used Tradestation, esignal, and others in the past and they are mostly only softwares for Charting and some limited statistical research and portfolio capabilities.
