I am sorry, this is a "hidden" secret in EV car sales, applies to other EV car maker. It is mostly because the car makers, in this case BYD, can claim goverment credit before the credit expires. When the credit is greater than the price differential between new and used.
My first BMW 323Ci back in 2000, European deielivery option saved me 3k on paper. I went to Munich factory to pick it up and in theory, I could drop off across the street to its dealership and shipped it back, probably would have 30 miles on it. Why? because it can be imported as used car, save import tax of new cars.
In the pandemic, I went to the dealer and was told no more new car available for lease unless I paid a premium. There were load of new cars sitting on the lot with inflated price tag. I ended up buying the 3 year old car I was driving.
It is not always what it seems, that would be too simple.

it was not a waste, it was a different business model. Chinese rental bikes were even in Washington DC market. Obviously we don’t peddle for work.
eventually these bikes will be taking apart and recycled.
It's a pity, it could have been a great project.
Bicycles are beneficial both for individuals and the environment. In Germany, there are special programs for financing electric bikes through employers.
the Chinese are very frugal in a sense that they recycle almost everything at individual level, even moving boxes, newpapers, woods, metals, broken electronics, at recycling points for small pocket money.
I hope for that. Unfortunately, I haven't been to China, so I can only say that some things are made with such poor quality that they can be thrown away immediately.
if you don't have disposable income, you don't buy high quality products.
We have a lot of stores with cheap and not very high-quality products priced at 1-2 euros. People consume a lot of such low-quality items due to their low price. However, if you look at the expenses over a year, you could have bought one quality item that would serve you for a long time.
