No risk management, only betting (or hoping).
Sometimes it works.
Sometimes it blows up.

Even if he wins money with all these shorts, IMO, that was very bad trading because it would be only a question of luck and hope.

supposively, there is a crowded HF trade: long SHAK, short YELP. I don't understand why anyone would put that trade on. It could be some bs sales-trader explanation for the behavior of SHAK.
