I did not know what juneteenth is but now I know it has something to do with black people.

This newly added market-closing date is apparently for celebrating the end of slavery after it was signed into law in 2022 by who else but the useless Biden. https://www.nasdaq.com/articles/is-the-stock-market-open-on-juneteenth-2022 But I am baffled that nobody is upset that the market is closing yet again totally unnecessarily on an arbitrary day robbing us retail traders opportunities to make more money? The best way of obtaining true freedom is through economic freedom and financial wellbeing. And imo financial trading, is one of the most unbiased, impartial, fair and discrimination-free ways to obtain them. If you can make money, no matter what skin colour you have, you are going to be truly free. It is so ironic that the way this administration would choose to celebrate the end of slavery by limiting one of the most discrimination-free ways of gaining true freedom. I don't know how he thinks denying people of opportunities to possibly improve their financial situation via trading is any way of celebrating something. What does he want people to do on Monday? Sit home all day and reflect how slavery has ended but we are still poor and even poorer this year with the double-digit inflation when I could be in the market making money trading to pay for everything that's doubled in cost? I guess it's too much to expect that Biden can think of that when he gallantly signed this day into a useless holiday because if he can, he wouldn't be Biden and he wouldn't be useless.

Honestly, Biden is making me miss George W. Bush, another useless president who interestingly also gained the presidency through "extraordinary" means.

I think savior's point was that the kid did not face punishment and he thinks it was only due to his race. Lance and Tonya both faces consequences.

They are examples you know about because they saw consequences and I gave an example of a white kid who didn't see proportionate consequences. Again not a race thing.

I looked at his USCF profile again and he never made NM. He’s a candidate master and he peaked at 2152. I recall his grandmother telling me he was a master but my memory is a bit fuzzy why I didn’t catch that he wasn’t.

Also I have a clearer memory of the cheating incident. He was not playing the Chinese GM teen but a much younger Chinese kid, 11- or 12-years old, whose parents were friends of the GM kid’s dad.

I won’t give out the name in public. He’s a student now at a very prestigious university in California (first letter S), which I’m sure his weak chess credentials helped him get into. Just a wild guess that being black didn’t hurt either.

My students have been ranked in the top 5 in their age and gender groups and have represented the USA at World Youth Chess Championships. Some of them have gone on to Ivy League universities and the most recent one just finished her first year at MIT.

Scholastic chess is very competitive and it’s not just about chess for the top players but about getting into top universities at the end of their scholastic careers. I see firsthand the unfairness based on race.
