Markets closed again today? WTF?

Quote from mjh:

There is no mail delivery today ---don't know about other businesses yet though.

As far as having a day off for the passing of a former president and complaining the markets are closed-give me a break! We have the greatest country in the world and it's that way because of a lot of things, but one of them is our sense of tradition and patriotism.

I served in the military all of my life and was always happy to just know that when my day was done and my tour was over I would be coming back to the USA. No other place on earth or in my mind can give me that feeling.

Remember that even though the markets are closed and we mourn a president that may or may not hve been great, it's part of who we are and part of what makes our nation so great. If everytime I flew a mission and felt that the order was wrong or that the powers that be were wrong and every other serviceman felt that way--there wouldn't be a market!

JUst my two cents worth.

Well my friend apparently not everyone believes that the U.S is the greatest country in the world. I believe the feeling you are describiing is just an element of home sweet home, the same way i feel when i go home to visit my family, even though the place is pretty ugly.
Johnson was so true when he said " patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel." Patriotism in an extreme degree does nothing more than divide the world and promote contempt of other of people of other nations. Ask yourself, if patriotism and national pride in an extreme degree did not exist, what genocides could have been avoided. I am English but I have and do spend time in 3rd world countries, and many people in those countries feel exactly the same way about their country as you do of the states. So who is right if so many people feel the same way about their own country. If you feel that the U.S is the greatest country i the world, then by all means say soas an opinion, but to make sweeping statements that for a fact the U.S is the greatest country in the world then you are making a yourself out to be a retard. No offense.
As regards the markets being closed out of respect for Ford, I don't see anything wrond with showing some respect to a someone who died.

Well said and very true. I would extend this to include all the narrow minded religious fanatics who believe that only their fairy tale is true and there is nothing to learn from the others. Of course if one has true faith then the other guy must be wrong/evil so it's OK to kill them.

Damn those patriots during the American Revolution. We could be under British rule right now.

How lame cause they have finally decided to bury the poor guy the whole stock market has to be closed again.

First it was closed on monday. Now tuesday?

Has america suddenly gotten lazy and decided to invent new ways to not work?

The consequences of such an extended trading pause can be devestating. 4 days no trading.

And How do you lose to carter? How is that even possible? You have to really suck to pull that off.

You would think a guy who manages an ibank trading desk would know the equity markets are closed for Ford's funeral. :p

It was religious intolerance that drove the pilgrims to America in the first place. And it was imperialism - taxation without representation- that drove the patriot movement.
