How can interviewers verify whether the analysts/managers/execs. they are talking to are telling the truth as to what positions they may have in a stock they are talking about? I am sure they do not have the power to audit the firms involved. So when a fund manager says he is holding a staking in let's say cisco and talking about its prospects, how can we know he is not simultaneously selling or shorting it? I know it is cynical but to quote Pres. Reagan to the Soviets: "Trust but verify."
