Mark Steyn's Interesting Take

1/ Hungarians are NOT Muslims....They are a God Fearing Christian nation......
2/Moscow is in Russia
3/ They don't have Hungarian insurgents in Moscow. The capital of Hungary is Budapest
4/There, in fact, were the equivalent of 'insurgents' in Budapest. A large portion of these 'insurgents' somehow survived and/or left Hungary for countries such as England, the USA, Australia and Canada.

Steyn was comparing "pipsqueak" insurgents, i.e. unorganized, "unofficial" Sunni and Shite militia's to the threat posed by legitimate militaries in China, South Korea and to a lesser degree, Iran.

American military policy has been much like the NFL. If you can't win at least keep the game close. We'd rather play for a field goal than throw, let alone drop the bomb. We appear impotent. Compare Russia's all out domination of it's conquests in Eastern Europe, the squelching of dissidents, the all out submission, to that of America's forays since WWII.

The difference between the legimate militaries in China, South Korea, and Iran, is they might even surrender if they got their asses handed to them. (China by the way wouldn't be interested in warring with its biggest debtor, but let us not even contemplated war with these people)

The "pipsqueaK", unorganized insurgents, aren't interested in such formalities when they can retreat into the shadows and emerge as suicide bombers and blow up the local mosques full of women and children.

As far as I'm concerned, we won the war. Saddam will soon hang from the treetops.

We'll likely retreat to the fortress that is being built and play referee for 10-50 years, giving favorable calls to our side.

One can't predict the future. WHAT IF, the Democrat's pass some onerous protectionist trade legislation and china get's pissed. They invade Taiwan and back an NK move into Seoul. You don't think that can happen?

Then what?

I'd defer to you. I'm not eactly, what you'd call, an expert in South East Asian politics.

All I know is China holds a trillion dollars of our debt, and we send in excess of $200 Billion to them than we receive back each year. It's probably in China's best interest not to piss us off either. (Pretty good info ab out China here: http://www.iie.com/publications/papers/bergsten0306-a1.cfm)

I am just left wondering, cant we all just get the fuck along!!

Quote from Pa(b)st Prime:

It has been a long time since America unambiguously won a war, and to choose to lose Iraq would be an act of such parochial self-indulgence that the American moment would not endure, and would not deserve to. Europe is becoming semi-Muslim, Third World basket-case states are going nuclear, and, for all that 40 percent of planetary military spending, America can't muster the will to take on pipsqueak enemies. We think we can just call off the game early, and go back home and watch TV.

It doesn't work like that. Whatever it started out as, Iraq is a test of American seriousness. And, if the Great Satan can't win in Vietnam or Iraq, where can it win? That's how China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Venezuela and a whole lot of others look at it. "These Colors Don't Run" is a fine T-shirt slogan, but in reality these colors have spent 40 years running from the jungles of Southeast Asia, the helicopters in the Persian desert, the streets of Mogadishu. ... To add the sands of Mesopotamia to the list will be an act of weakness from which America will never recover.

It's been obvious since Viet Nam that Americans essentially don't have the resolve to actually win a war. A 3 day bombing? Sure, no problem.

Show a few of the brutalities of war on the evening news...and it's all over but the shouting. Look at the sissies here at ET screaming for America to leave Iraq. There is no toughness in America anymore. The enemy cuts heads off, but Americans are imprisoned yet the liberal press and base scream at American soldiers for even the most minor of war acts.

I saw it in Viet Nam...an enemy who won the minds of the countryside through atrocities...yet in America we imprisoned those we felt guilty.

This country is not tough enough to fight a war. We should lay our weapons down, our enemies have resolve, they believe in their cause...which is to rid the world of "infidels". We should not enter another war unless we are prepared to give as good as we get. I don't expect to see that day.

You sound like a real tough guy.

Why aren't you on the front lines fighting for the US right now?

You mean other than the fact that I'm 61? Been there, done that....in Viet Nam. I was discharged after 2 years, 8 months active duty in the military in 1968.

What about your children, grandchildren? I am sure they are in Iraq now, looking for WMD, defending our freedoms, fighting them there so that we don't have to fight them here, right? You will not hesitate to ask your own child to be the last person to die for a lie, to die for the right of Iraqis to go to the polls and elect Muqtada al-Sadr, will you?

Kinda Like Bush did with Steel tariffs? Perhaps not "onerous" but they were quite stupid and protectionist nonetheless. They effected S.Korea's Pohang mills more than any other in China, which was they're stated intention.

I don't believe that China will never physically attack the U.S. They're living the Art of Sun Tzu's Warfare. They'll wait patiently as we destroy ourselves.

BTW: Mark Steyn is a mere polemist who enjoy's the liberty's and safety's provided by his parents adopted domicile while contributing nothing to it 's protecting. Much like his American dickhead counterparts like Krauthammer.
