Then there are the Marxist journalists who would love it if the UK joined the EU.

I think Germany exiting would be a great move. I'm sure one of the major problems with this is all the debt held in Euros that their banks have extended, and how all of that would become worthless once they left and the Euro devalued.

A close second would be the problem of who to export to once the DM came back and was expensive relative to other European countries.
