who would you rather have own that land USA or Exxon? Or, what's the difference? Most of that land owned by the government in my state is either big reservoirs, forests or military bases.

I was not really making a value judgment.

I will say that we should be charging companies market rates to exploit our land unless it is for skiing and snowboarding or mountain bike riding... and crediting it directly to my federal state and local taxes and sales taxes... since I just suggested the idea.

I agree with you. I would rather own it. I am the government, Right?

That is my new thing. Local ownership. Should make for some good new movies where in the new world towns once again fight against the evil guy who tries to own it all. And to do that you need both private citizens and a government they have elected. It's a tightrope out there I tell ya!
