funny how you scoff at my ideas that have an actual foundation in reality, yet you probably have no trouble having 100% "faith" that when you die a "soul" will somehow leave your body and float off to "heaven." please explain the mechanism by which this "soul" stays in your body and knows when to float up to "heaven." also, how does it know where "heaven" is? how does it get there? if you do not need your body, and therefore who you are is your "soul" and not your active brain, why did "god" give you a body? why don't souls just float around without bodies?Quote from Maverick74:

I actually respect where you are coming from, but i would like to know your feelings on whether I or others should be allowed to eat meat....is that our choice too ? are you for regulation forbidding it or do you believe into each his own?
The thing I find fascinating is that according to your beliefs, we are nothing more then a highly developed animal( mammal) that has higher intelligence then the other creatures of the earth....but if you do not believe in an afterlife or a heaven ect....then we are just part of nature....so why do we care about eating another animal? Animals eat each other up and down the food chain so why is it dependent upon us to stop that?

RS - You state that you are your active brain. So you are more than just the cells or matter making up your brain. Maybe electrical impulses or something like that, maybe something like the software in your computer that makes it operate. The computer hardware (brain and body parts) and computer software (impulses that make the brain and body live and function). You call that software, active brain, others call it life, or soul, or maybe spirit. We all recognize that it is there, we just call it by different names. You seem to believe that when your active brain stops then you die and that is the end of it all. But if the active brain is like the software in a computer it has the potential to be eternal. If your active brain is a program of impulses then that program could last forever like the computer software. That program could also be potentially transferred or stored. I have a satellite internet, because of poor phone service, and transfer software over that connection all the time so the technology is there for transferring and storing software type stuff. Whether the active brain "software" dies when your body does is a matter of personal belief because it would be very hard to prove that if it is like software it could not be eternal and transferrable and storable.

as for laws, i would say there needs to be more humane ways of slaughtering animals. none of this pulling their guts out while they're moaning.

i disagree with your eternal life software analogy. the information is stored in the brain. this information is who you are, what you know, your personality, etc. brain cells die. as soon as you die, the information stored in your brain degrades. i'm pretty sure this is why some people that drown can only be brought back to life after a short period of time. if you wait too long, too much of the brain has degraded. so i disagree with you when you say that who you are stays in the brain like computer software. the brain needs to be kept alive or it will decompose. as it decomposes, information it contains goes away with it.Quote from Doubter:
